Responsible for constructing, energizing, and maintaining electric distribution system for the City of Denton citizens and Denton Municipal Electric (DME) customers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
- Supervise and direct work for assigned electric utility construction work crews to ensure safe and timely construction and maintenance of the DME distribution and transmission systems including, but not limited to, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to schedule and safety construct all electric facilities, schedule and arrange for all State of Texas required underground one-call locates in advance of occurrence of project work, maintain reasonable contact with department to ensure project status or issue updates, monitor and record crew activities, provide routine updates and reports to supervisor, and substitute for Line Manager, as needed.
- Mentor and assist Ground Technicians through Journeyman Lineman staff ensuring they progress through the Department of Labor approved lineman apprenticeship program in a timely manner.
- Responsible for personal safety and the safety of the field work team; address and report unsafe actions and/or behavior to supervisor immediately.
- Enforce departmental safety adherence to City of Denton and DME safety rules and regulations; instruct team members on proper work procedures.
- Troubleshoot the electric system and make needed repairs in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Construct projects in accordance with the electrical engineering job projects and drawings, and works with internal and external stakeholders to find solutions to any unforeseen field changes.
- Record, and complete all end of project redline as-built drawings and documentation for Engineering and GIS use and master repository functions.
- Collaborate with electric engineering on new construction projects, job order drawings, and material lists.
- Review inventory and request necessary materials and supplies to safely construct and perform daily and project functions.
- Investigate internal and external stakeholder concerns; perform research for issues coordinates and facilitates necessary actions to resolve concern as appropriate; when necessary, communicate directly for identification of service needs and address concern with appropriate written, verbal, or in-person follow-up.
- Perform team member job functions in the event of their absence.
- Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; recommend assignment/assignment change, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
- Assist with developing, managing, and monitor budget, as requested; maintain accurate budget reporting; ensure that operations are cost-effective, and funds are managed wisely.

- High School diploma or equivalent; and,
- Ten (10) years of electric utility experience; and,
- Five (5) years’ experience as a Journeyman; and,
- Completion of a valid 4-year Lineman Apprenticeship program with Journeyman Card; and,
- Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment or completed at the next City of Denton offered course (online training is not valid),
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Ability to read, interpret, and construct new electric facilities from blueprints, work orders and/or follow feeder route switching orders.
- Ability to handle records and complex situations of a confidential nature.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality.
- Ability to support controversial positions, negotiation of sensitive issues and/or presentations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
- Ability to work independently and/or with team environment while handling multiple tasks and changing priorities with attention to detail.
- Ability to motivate, mentor and train through direct and indirect influence.
- Ability to develop, understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures operations.
- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) endorsement and a good driving record.
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must have and maintain a valid DOL Journeyman Lineman license.
- Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment or completed at the next City of Denton offered course (online training is not valid).
- Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to leadership.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; use of hand and power tools, standard electrical equipment, and use of motor vehicle; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Posture: Prolonged balancing, standing, walking, and climbing; occasional sitting; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent work at elevated heights and climbs poles; frequent repetitive hand and leg motions.
- Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting, no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Works outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, dust, heights, noise, no/low light, insects, poison oak/ivy, debris, odors, steep slopes, enclosed spaces, uneven ground, and rough terrain; requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, as needed. Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes, responsible for call time when name comes up on rotation list, available to be on stand-by, work emergency call outs and able to work standby every fifth week.
