The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes for gas meter assemblies. This position will interact daily in cross functional teams, facilitate problem solving, equipment troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions driving continuous improvements throughout manufacturing processes.
Key Accountabilities & Core Responsibilities:
Process Optimization and Technical Documentation
Develop and improve repeatable manufacturing processes to reduce cycle time, increase throughput, and reduce waste
Implement Lean principles and VBLSS tools to support continuous improvement
Create and maintain routings, BOMs, WPS/PQR files, and standard work documentation
Ensure documentation meets ISO and internal quality standards
Align technical instructions with union job classifications and training requirements
Cost Analysis and Capital Improvement
Conduct time studies and prepare standard cost data
Develop cost justifications and capital project proposals
Lead the installation and launch of new equipment or process upgrades
Support plant layout changes and capacity expansion projects
Tooling, CNC, and Robotic Welding Support
Design or specify jigs, fixtures, and tooling for improved efficiency and operator safety
Generate CNC and robotic welding programs to support precision and repeatability
Train and support operators in the effective use of new tools or technology
Cross-Functional and Labor Collaboration
Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Planning, and Supply Chain teams
Participate in daily production meetings to align on safety, quality, and delivery goals
Support labor-management communication by ensuring changes are clearly understood by all parties
Ensure training aligns with union job responsibilities and promotes success on the floor
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
Investigate production, quality, or tooling issues using structured problem-solving methods
Implement corrective actions to ensure sustained improvement
Benchmark and introduce new technology or best practices
Provide technical backup to other Manufacturing Engineers or Supervisors as needed
Equipment Evaluation and Workplace Safety
Evaluate machine capacity, reliability, and layout to recommend improvements
Incorporate safety and ergonomic improvements into all equipment upgrades
Support departmental continuity during vacations, absences, or special projects
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing related major BSIE, BSME, BSIT, BSMT
2-5 years' experience in a manufacturing industry preferred
Must possess good analytical and technical skills.
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Must have a good working knowledge of entire manufacturing processes
3D CAD Software knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing Certifications
CNC and Robotic Welding programming experience
AS400 Business System Knowledge
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility
Sitting and Walking/Standing: 50/50

Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.
Office/Mfg. Plant: 50/50
Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours+
