Managing Director

A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Managing Director: Africa Blasting Operations to provide strategic direction, executive leadership and operational oversight across its African blasting operations. This pivotal role will be responsible for driving sustainable growth, profitability, operational excellence and customer-focused solutions while building a high-performance culture grounded in safety, governance, innovation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will bring extensive executive leadership experience within a production, manufacturing, engineering, mining or related industrial environment, with the ability to lead diverse teams and complex operations across multiple African markets.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute the Africa Blasting business strategy, aligned with broader organisational growth, innovation and transformation objectives.
• Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, cash flow and overall business performance across multi-country operations.
• Provide strategic leadership across Operations, Production, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Resources, SHERQ and Marketing functions.
• Lead customer service excellence initiatives and strengthen long-term client and stakeholder relationships.
• Drive operational efficiency, quality improvement and the maturity of people, process and technology capabilities.
• Ensure the continuous and reliable supply of raw materials and finished products to support business growth.
• Establish and maintain strong governance, risk management and compliance frameworks across the division.
• Champion a high-performance culture that promotes integrity, accountability, diversity, safety and ethical business practices.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and ensure consistent, predictable and high-quality operational outcomes.
• Monitor market developments, industry trends and emerging risks to identify strategic opportunities across African markets.

Requirements:

• Postgraduate degree in Engineering, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline.
• MBA, MBL or equivalent postgraduate business management qualification.
• Project Management certification.
• 7–10 years' executive leadership experience.
• At least 5 years' senior-level experience within production, manufacturing, engineering or a related industrial environment.
• Demonstrable experience developing and executing business strategies and strategic plans.
• Experience managing multi-country, multinational or global operations.
• Proven experience leading high-performing, diverse and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, ROI, cash flow and business performance measurement.
• Experience in governance, enterprise risk and compliance management.
• Knowledge of quality assurance, continuous improvement and quality management systems.
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles would be advantageous.
• Strong working knowledge of mining operations and the broader explosives or mining services environment.
• Excellent strategic problem-solving, stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building capabilities.
