Description
The Workers Comp Specialist serves as the principal liaison with patients in Iredel Health Occupational Medicine.
- Responsible for seeing all workers’ comp patients in clinic and handling patient care alongside the provider
- Welcomes all new walk-in initial injuries and follow-up appointments, completes intake, addresses new wound status injuries, and preps the room for the provider
- Assists with donning any medical equipment needed on the patient and instructing patients on how to use it
- Must have strong leadership skills, can adapt to an ever-changing environment, cope with stressful situations, remain calm in emergent situations, and communicate effectively with staff, patients, providers, employers, and adjusters always; assist staff when there is a high volume of employment screenings
- Responsible for having an authorization for all follow-up visits prior to the patient’s next visit or must reschedule and inform their adjuster
- Sends all medical notes, return to work status, referral orders, outside radiology orders, etc. to employers and adjusters. Must confirm receipts of notes, and follow-up with them to receive new authorizations for follow-up visits, dates for future medical appointments (i.e. MRI appointments, PT referral appointments), receive referral information provided by third parties, work one-on-one with these TPAs to follow the patient’s recommended medical service (PT sessions, scheduled MRI appointment), then retrieve results for provider to review, schedule pt to return to clinic with adjuster approval
- Must be knowledgeable of patient’s return to the clinic, bridge any gaps of service, and track patients throughout their injury care back to baseline
- Must document all activity into the patient’s chart, including but not limited to patient/employer/adjuster/third party calls, voicemail messages, emails, faxes, etc., into the worker’s comp shared pool portal for communication with all staff involved
- Creates a communication board with claim information, date of injury, employer name, insurance company, adjuster name, and all information for the billing team and staff to refer to information quickly when necessary.
- Updates billing information- outside employers send information via email and fax at various times following the visit; must update billing information, communication board, and add an addendum to the pool portal note. There is no clinic email, so all communication will go through this person’s email or attention if faxed.
- Responsible for all Occupational Medicine supplies in our medical carts in exam rooms 7, 8, & 9. Each room should be cleaned and ready for next use
- Assists in the lab with Urine drug screening when needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred
- 2-3 years of medical office practice experience preferred
- BLS certification obtained within 30 days of the start of employment
- Must be able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, lift and complete physical movements required in the role.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry up to 35 pounds.
