Test Lab Quality & Operations Specialist

Description

American-Marsh Pumps is seeking a Test Lab Quality & Operations Specialist to help ensure our pumps meet performance and quality standards. In this hands-on role, you’ll troubleshoot test results, improve workflow, and share your technical knowledge with the next generation of Test Lab employees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pump Testing & Performance

• Review pump performance testing and test curves for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable specifications.
• Assist test personnel in interpreting flow, head, efficiency, power, vibration, and other pump performance data.
• Identify abnormal test results and help determine potential mechanical, hydraulic, assembly, or testing-related causes.
• Provide troubleshooting support when pump performance does not meet expected or published performance.
• Help ensure testing procedures and documentation are completed consistently and accurately.
• Support continuous improvement of AMP’s pump testing practices and capabilities.

Quality & Technical Support

• Provide experienced technical review of pumps during assembly, testing, and final preparation.
• Identify potential quality concerns before equipment progresses to the next stage of production or shipment.
• Assist in troubleshooting assembly, fit-up, performance, and product-related issues.
• Work with Quality and Engineering to identify root causes and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Promote workmanship and quality standards consistent with AMP expectations and customer requirements.
• Use historical product and application knowledge to assist with legacy AMP equipment and unusual technical situations.

Test Lab Flow & Scheduling

• Support efficient movement of work through assembly, testing, finishing, and shipment.
• Work closely with Scheduling and Test Lab personnel to understand priorities and identify potential bottlenecks.
• Help coordinate testing requirements with production schedules and customer commitments.
• Identify workflow issues that may affect quality, productivity, or delivery performance.
• Recommend practical improvements to Test Lab layout, sequencing, processes, tooling, and work methods.
• Help leadership maintain visibility into upcoming workload, testing requirements, and potential scheduling conflicts.

Training, Mentoring & Knowledge Transfer

• Serve as a technical mentor and resource for developing Test Lab employees.
• Share practical knowledge of AMP pumps, manufacturing methods, testing procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and historical product designs.
• Help employees develop a stronger understanding of why processes and procedures are performed, not simply how to perform them.
• Provide hands-on coaching in pump assembly, testing, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting.
• Support the development of employees who demonstrate potential for future technical or leadership responsibilities.
• Help document critical institutional knowledge so that experience gained over many years remains within AMP.
• Encourage employees to take increasing ownership of decisions, problem-solving, quality, and Test Lab performance as their capabilities develop.

Cross-Functional Support

The Test Lab Quality & Operations Specialist will work closely with:

• Test Lab and Production personnel
• Quality
• Engineering
• Scheduling and Planning
• Sales and Order Management
• Test Lab personnel
• Operations leadership
• The position is expected to help connect these functions and resolve issues before they negatively affect quality, testing, delivery, or customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive experience with centrifugal pumps, vertical turbine pumps, or similar rotating equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of pump assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and performance characteristics.
• Ability to read and interpret pump performance curves, drawings, specifications, and test data.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and Test Lab operations.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic problems.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to teach and develop others.
• Ability to work effectively across departments and experience levels.
• Familiarity with American-Marsh Pumps products, processes, and historical equipment is highly preferred.
