Job Description:

Job Summary:

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center seeks to hire a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Professional Practice to serve as its Director of Bar Success. The Director reports to the Dean and serves in a full-time, 12-month position.


The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center is one of the few law schools in the United States that operates within a mixed legal system of civil and common law, reflecting Louisiana's unique legal tradition. Located at the heart of one of the most beautiful campuses in America, the Law Center is a collegial and intellectually vibrant community that has recently experienced significant momentum.


The Director of Bar Success will design, implement, and manage bar preparation programming to assist students in preparing for and passing the Louisiana and out-of-state bar exams, including the NextGen Bar Exam.


Job Responsibilities:


Bar Success Program Leadership and Administration – 25%

  • Design, implement, manage, and assess comprehensive bar success programs and initiatives to support student and graduate preparation for the Louisiana, out-of-state, and NextGen Bar Exams.
  • Collaborate with commercial bar preparation vendors to enhance program effectiveness and student outcomes.

Teaching and Instruction – 25%

  • Develop and teach credit-bearing bar preparation courses and related instructional programming.
  • Create and update course content to align with current bar examination requirements and best practices.

Student Advising, Coaching, and Academic Support – 30%

  • Provide individualized advising, coaching, and academic support to students and graduates preparing for bar examinations.
  • Develop personalized study plans and intervention strategies to promote bar readiness and success.

Assessment, Data Analysis, and Curriculum Collaboration – 15%

  • Track, analyze, and report bar passage outcomes and related performance data across jurisdictions.
  • Partner with faculty to integrate bar-tested competencies, skills development, and NextGen Bar Exam considerations throughout the curriculum.

Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

  • Perform additional responsibilities, special projects, committee service, and other duties in support of the law school's academic success, accreditation, assessment, and student services objectives.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school (or international equivalent), bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction (active or inactive), and a minimum of two years of experience in law practice, law teaching, or academic support programs.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include experience in bar success program coordination or administration, experience with data collection and analysis, and familiarity with the Louisiana bar exam.
