Ammonia and Refrigeration Tech I-Manufacturing/Interview - $31.85/hr (Mon-Fri, 2:30pm-11:00pm)

Position Summary...

The Walmart Dairy Plant in Fort Wayne, IN is one of the largest Milk Processing Plants in the United States. We provide our customers with the freshest, high-quality milk at everyday low prices for families. We are seeking an experienced Ammonia & Refrigeration Technician I to join our automated milk manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be responsible for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex ammonia refrigeration systems critical to dairy processing, while also supporting cross-functional industrial plant maintenance.

From diagnosing intricate logic controls to managing wastewater treatment systems and leading safety compliance, you will play a central role in keeping our production floor safe, sanitary, and running at peak performance.

What you'll do...

• Advanced Refrigeration Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair complex ammonia refrigeration system problems involving equipment logic controls and external input/output (I/O) devices where faults are not immediately visible.
• System Operations & PM: Operate daily system machinery including compressors and fan units. Adjust controls to optimize system parameters, monitor performance, and execute comprehensive preventative maintenance (PM) according to OEM specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Cross-Functional Plant Maintenance: Assist other maintenance technicians with secondary utility repairs, including lift trucks, pneumatic systems, material handling equipment, hydraulics, dock equipment, and industrial electrical systems.
• Electrical Diagnostics: Troubleshoot refrigeration and electrical faults using multimeters, diagnostic laptops, blueprints, and electro-mechanical schematics.
• Water & Wastewater Management: Operate and maintain equipment within our on-site wastewater treatment plant. Manage filtration and water purification systems to ensure environmental and operational safety.
• Safety, Compliance & HazMat: Act as an active member of the facility HazMat team, safely cleaning and handling hazardous materials. Monitor work areas for safety hazards and ensure all operations comply with corporate policies and regulatory standards.
• Documentation & Digital Workflow: Efficiently execute, close out, and log maintenance activities using computer-based work orders and daily log tracking sheets.
• Team Leadership & Process Improvement: Coordinate work assignments, provide feedback and support to peers, and share resources to meet business timelines.

The hourly wage range for this position is $31.85 - $39.85* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Trade/vocational school degree/certification in industrial maintenance or similar area.
Option 2: 1 year’s experience in industrial refrigeration (for example, valve rebuilds, working with refrigeration systems).

Option 4: 2 years’ experience with wastewater treatment plants.
Option 5: 2 years’ experience in industrial maintenance.
