The Team
The Actuarial Analytics & Insights, Protection team sits within Corporate Actuarial (CA), part of Divisional Business Services (DBS), and supports the Protection Line of Business.
The team analyses financial results and balance sheet movements across US GAAP, Internal Economic Capital (EC), Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and relevant regional statutory bases. Its focus is to generate clear insight, deepen understanding of Protection performance and support PL Re’s strategic priorities.
The team works closely with Valuation, Actuarial Systems & Projects, Finance, Operations, R&D and the wider Protection business.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a strong actuary to join the Protection AA&I team at PL Re.
Reporting to the AVP, AA&I, Protection, Europe, the role offers varied, high-impact work, exposure to senior management and the chance to influence the future direction of Europe Protection and wider PL Re. It requires strong actuarial judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to explain risks, results and balance sheet movements clearly.
The successful candidate will lead analysis of quarterly business results, translate findings into clear insight and help identify opportunities that add value to the Europe Protection business.
The role works across DBS, CA and the Protection Line of Business, requiring strong stakeholder management, fast learning and practical problem solving. The candidate will help ensure reporting challenges, financial impacts and new initiatives are well understood and effectively managed.
Alongside reporting and analytics, the role will support continuous improvement initiatives, including system migrations, enhancements and broader process improvements.
Other work will include model and reporting fixes, experience analysis impact assessments, and investigations into methodology, assumption or system-driven reporting impacts.
Role Responsibilities
Contribute to the Protection AA&I team’s strategic priorities and strengthen understanding of Protection financial results.
Analyse and explain quarterly financial results, including:
Attributing and explaining key result movements.
Using scenarios and sensitivities to explain financial dynamics.
Providing clear insight and proposed management actions for Protection results and balance sheets.
Identify and assess value-add opportunities for the Europe Protection business, grounded in a strong understanding of its economic performance.
Support the scoping, delivery and implementation of process, system and methodology enhancements.
Manage stakeholders effectively by:
Building effective networks and communicating with clarity.
Developing strong relationships across Protection and wider DBS.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Qualified actuary (or equivalent actuarial experience)
Experience working in life insurance or reinsurance, ideally with exposure to the UK Protection market
Proven ability to investigate and explain financial movements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience working with actuarial models
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to tight deadlines
Strong communication skills
Desirable
Strong understanding of actuarial reporting and financial result analysis
Experience supporting actuarial or finance system implementations
Exposure to Oracle Fusion ERP and/or Oracle EPM solutions
Knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS 4, Solvency II, Bermuda/Economic Capital or related reporting frameworks
Experience supporting UAT and business readiness activities
