Job Summary:
The Scheduling Function plays a pivotal role in the daily planning and scheduling of production processes at Steel Warehouse. This position requires a highly organized and proactive individual who can expertly manage a variety of changing factors such as labor, machine capacity, customer deadlines, and unforeseen challenges. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Steel Warehouse operations and will be able to adapt to dynamic circumstances. Effective communication across departments is crucial to maintaining efficient operations and promptly resolving issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Determine and manage the resources* needed to efficiently accomplish the following tasks:
· Schedule and organize production activities within the ERP system to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines.
· Analyze Power BI reports to provide accurate forecasting for future production runs.
· Review customer orders to ensure accuracy and feasibility for timely delivery.
· Serve as the liaison between Operations and Sales to facilitate a smooth workflow and address any issues.
· Coordinate with Production and Logistics teams to ensure accurate data transfer and proper dispatch according to customer orders.
· Ensure all customer orders are processed with profitability and diligence by balancing overtime costs and customer service goals.
· Develop and implement daily and weekly production schedules and targets.
· Balance labor and machine capacity to optimize operations and production throughput.
· Communicate promptly and effectively with Sales when unexpected issues arise.
· Develop, maintain, and improve on-time delivery metrics for each customer and the business.
*Note, this position will start off with two experienced, full-time schedulers who are approaching retirement in the next 1 to 3 years
Other Expectations:
· Work closely with the Global Process Owner (“Plan to Produce”) on the IT Team to determine the configuration of the new ERP – INVEX for the scheduling function for the 20+ work centers on Tucker Drive. Determine the resources needed for the future state (INVEX) of the business.
· Provide regular feedback to the leadership team regarding current orders, challenges, and production forecasts.
· Collaborate with Purchasing, Sales, and Operations teams to drive key initiatives (i.e. Stock & Hold, Mill Claims management, Expedited Shipments premium, Material Flow and Floor Space optimization).
· Identify and recommend improvements to increase productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
· Work with Operations to plan and execute efficient production shutdowns while maintaining customer service.
· Foster collaboration among diverse personalities, bringing teams together to achieve common business goals.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Proven experience in production scheduling, manufacturing operations, or supply chain management, preferably in a steel or heavy manufacturing environment.
Expert understanding of Steel Warehouse’s operational workflow and the factors that impact customer orders.
Strong proficiency with ERP systems and scheduling software.
Experience analyzing data and generating reports using tools like Power BI or similar platforms.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across various departments.
Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop solutions.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices is a plus.
Self-starter who enjoys taking initiative and driving their own path.
Ability to handle stressful situations and transform challenges into opportunities for improvement.
