Position Summary

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician performs skilled troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment used in the production of electrical transformer components. This role supports uninterrupted plant operations by maintaining production machinery, performing preventive and predictive maintenance routines, and ensuring equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards.

 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting on production equipment, transformers component winding machines, presses, slitting machines, molding equipment, cutting tools, conveyors, and assembly systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving motors, drives, PLC-controlled systems, sensors, relays, mechanical linkages, and material handling equipment.
  • Conduct machine repairs, adjustments, and part replacements to minimize downtime.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Complete scheduled PM tasks using CMMS or assigned logs and ensure proper equipment documentation.
  • Inspect and test equipment components such as bearings, belts, gearboxes, drives, lubrication systems, and wiring.
  • Assist in the implementation of root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts.

Electrical Responsibilities

  • Perform low-voltage electrical troubleshooting (AC/DC circuits, motors, sensors, controls).
  • Assist with calibration, wiring, and testing of control panels, actuators, limit switches, and safety devices.
  • Support contractors and engineering resources on upgrades or installations.

Mechanical Functions

  • Repair or rebuild mechanical components including gearboxes, rollers, chains, pumps, actuators, and alignment systems.
  • Fabricate and install basic brackets, guards, jigs, or light welds as needed.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and torque/measuring instruments.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA, LOTO, NFPA 70E and company safety policies at all times.
  • Participate in safety audits, hazard reporting, and corrective action implementation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance work area and support 5S initiatives.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment; transformer, electrical components, metals, machining, or molding environment preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of both mechanical systems and electrical control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment such as:
    • Winders, slitters, presses, annealing and cutting lines
    • Injection molding or metal forming equipment
    • Conveying and material handling systems
  • Familiarity with PLC-based machines (troubleshooting I/O preferred; programming not required).
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Electrical and mechanical drawings
    • Equipment schematics
    • Work orders and preventive maintenance logs
  • CMMS experience preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude including alignment, rigging, assembly, and repair
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting for controls and motor systems
  • Time management and urgency mindset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with operations, engineering, and quality teams
  • Clear communication and documentation skills

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum one year in manufacturing environment.
  • Technical trade certification in Electro-Mechanical, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or similar preferred
  • OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO or related safety training beneficial

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, oils, metals, and electrical equipment
  • Ability to:
    • Lift up to 50 lbs
    • Stand, bend, climb, and walk for extended periods
    • Work occasional overtime or weekends to support production needs
