Description
Founding Storyteller Manager
Part-Time Contract | October 2026 – May 2027
About Kinfolk Tech
Kinfolk Tech is a Brooklyn-based cultural technology nonprofit building community-owned memory tools, archives, and public art. Our work sits at the intersection of technology, cultural preservation, and justice.
The Role
The Founding Storyteller Manager is the day-to-day lead for the Founding Storytellers program: twenty invited memory workers who will build the first collections on Stories We Tend, Kinfolk's community storytelling platform, ahead of its February 2027 public launch.
You will co-lead the program with Idris Brewster, Kinfolk's Executive Director, stewarding the storyteller experience across four staggered cohorts of five between November 2026 and May 2027. This is a light-touch program by design. Each storyteller produces a curated collection of ten or more stories over four months, drawing on their existing body of work. Your job is to make that experience feel considered, warm, and easy to move through.
Responsibilities
Facilitate each cohort's kickoff, mid-cohort check-in, and closing session. Four cohorts, three sessions each, over eight months.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the twenty Founding Storytellers across their four months in the program. Hold standing virtual office hours.
Lead onboarding for each cohort: platform access, contract signing, gift box coordination, and orientation to the cohort's narrative theme.
Coordinate across Kinfolk pods.
Capture platform feedback and pain points from storytellers as they use Stories We Tend, and route them to the Experience pod so the storytellers shape what the platform looks like at public launch.
Support each storyteller with the two public shares they've committed to: their cohort's launch week and the platform's public launch in February 2027.
Hand off completed collections to communications for cohort launch rollouts.
What We're Looking For
Experience running or coordinating creative, fellowship, or artist support programs. Direct experience with community-centered cultural work, digital archives, or storytelling practice is a strong plus.
Comfort holding overlapping cohorts. Two cohorts run in parallel during the peak months of January through April 2027.
Warm, clear, precise communication. Storytellers should feel cared for and never confused about what's happening or what's expected of them.
Comfort with virtual facilitation over Zoom.
Comfort with lightweight project management (we use Asana).
Alignment with Kinfolk's values around community ownership, consent, and technology at the speed of trust.
