About the Department
Finance Operations is a core part of Aberdeen’s Finance function, delivering services across Record to Report, Billing, Banking, Accounts Payable and Supplier Relationship Management. Within Group Financial Control, the team provides accurate financial outputs, robust controls and timely reporting, working with colleagues in Edinburgh and Chennai.
Record to Report underpins reliable financial reporting, regulatory compliance and informed decision-making, helping enable our clients to be better investors. The team has a strong control discipline and a focus on continuous improvement, automation and transformation.
About the Role
This Finance Operations GL Analyst role is a key opportunity within Record to Report in Edinburgh. You will act as a gatekeeper of the general ledger, delivering journals, reconciliations, month-end close and balance sheet substantiation while ensuring financial data is accurate, complete and audit ready. You will use technical judgement to understand, challenge and explain financial movements across areas such as intercompany, transfer pricing, revenue recognition, cost control and fixed assets. The role offers variety, ownership and exposure to process improvement, automation and AI-enabled finance solutions, helping you invest in your tomorrow.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a gatekeeper of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial data.
- Deliver core Record to Report activity, including journals, reconciliations, month-end close and balance sheet substantiation.
- Challenge inputs and outputs, validate data at source and ensure postings are supported, controlled and audit ready.
- Support key accounting activity across intercompany, transfer pricing, revenue recognition, cost control and fixed assets.
- Analyse financial movements and provide clear commentary that helps stakeholders understand the story behind the numbers.
- Contribute to process improvement and transformation, including opportunities to simplify, standardise, automate and use AI within R2R.
About the Candidate
Essential requirements
- Strong experience in Record to Report or General Ledger accounting, including month-end close.
- Experience across one or more core accounting areas such as intercompany, transfer pricing, revenue recognition, cost control, balance sheet substantiation or fixed assets, with transfer pricing and cost control highly valued.
- Experience using Oracle, or a similar ERP ledger, within a finance function.
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant, such as CA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA or an equivalent recognised body.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy, control and audit readiness in a GL environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Preferred and desirable experience
- Preferred: demonstrated ability to understand, challenge and explain financial data and movements.
- Preferred: proven track record in maintaining data integrity and financial control within a General Ledger environment.
- Desirable: experience supporting or delivering process improvement initiatives.
- Desirable: curiosity about automation, AI-enabled finance solutions and opportunities to improve Record to Report processes.
