Job Title: Assistant Research Scientist

Grade: 15

Salary: $28,950-$31,810

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a part-time Assistant Research Scientist position. The incumbent, under the supervision of the Field Director and Recruitment Director, will ensure smooth coordination of activities related to conducting independent but related psychiatric epidemiological field investigations, primarily of youth, in the New York City metropolitan area. She/he will supervise intern/interview scheduling and coordinate activities germane to subject recruitment, subject tracking, and other field-related activities, such as the collection of biologicals, in-person research procedures, subject and field staff transportation, etc. The incumbent will utilize and assist with all study recruitment efforts as instructed, including phone calls and in-person home visits. The incumbent will also participate in direct data collection and physical assessments. In addition, the incumbent will work primarily in the daytime, evening and on weekends and will spend some work hours in the field, except as required for training and supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise interview scheduling and coordinate activities germane to subject recruitment, subject tracking, including the use of computerized data sources to locate subjects lost to follow-up, and other field-related activities, such as the collection of biologicals, in-office participant activities, subject and field staff transportation, etc.
  • Provide regular monitoring and documentation of field work-related activities, such as maintaining interviewer schedules, training coordination, and hosting intern meetings, etc.
  • Utilize and assist with all study recruitment efforts as instructed, including phone calls and in-person home visits, for all ongoing epidemiological studies.
  • Conduct study interviews and other data/sample collection activities both in-person and over the phone, as needed.
  • Provide support and direct supervision to field interns, as needed.
  • Assist with the development and preparation of study questionnaires; participate in manuscripts, project report writing, and other research activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and (1) year of professional research experience in an appropriate field or 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience. Bachelor's/Master's degree in Epidemiology, Psychology, Biology, Criminal Justice and/or Public Health preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with principal investigator, co-investigators and study participants. Team player with ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills and attention to details.
  • Exhibited strong follow-through, as well as ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office technology and Google and Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • At least one (1) year experience/training in human subject research preferred.
  • Field experience and previous experience with coordination of clinical/research studies preferred.
  • Familiarity with online research platforms, such as Qualtrics and REDCap, highly preferred.
