Emergency Communications Operator

JOB OBJECTIVE: To receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, medical, and other public safety services; gathers essential information, determines the nature and priority of the call, and dispatches appropriate response units in compliance with all applicable guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols.

• Must possess Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Level 1-Basic Terminal Operator and Level 2-Advanced Operator certifications within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
• Must successfully complete Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) certification programs within established departmental timelines and maintain certifications throughout employment in this position.
• Must maintain performance standards established by departmental policies and accreditation requirements.
• Must comply with all accreditation standards, departmental policies, and operational procedures and participates in accreditation-related activities as required.
• Must be available to work outside of regular business hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required to include twenty-four (24) hour on-call work availability and/or various twelve (12) hour shift assignments and overtime as required.
• Prior to any exposure to criminal justice information must obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security and privacy certification and maintain the certification for the duration of employment in this position.

Online interview (SparkHire)	July 7th  -  July 17th2026 During the posting period, up to two weeks after closing. Applicants will have 72 hours to complete the online interview once they have received the link.
In-person Interviews	July 27th - August 14th, 2026.   Interview slot availability (dates and times) will be sent to eligible candidates by 12:00 PM on July 24th.
Offer Letter extended	August 18th  - August 21st, 2026.  Candidates will be sent an offer letter by email. Please note that if we do not receive a response to the offer letter by August 21st, the offer will be withdrawn.
Pre-employment: Psychological exam date and location	Week of  August 24th- August 28th.   Human Resources Conference Room and Test Lab, 500 West Markham St, Little Rock, AR. Psychological Exam date TBD, awaiting provider availability.  Consent forms will be attached to your NeoGov profile, the form must be completed no later than 5:00 PM on August 23rd. All candidates must present in-person to 500 West Markham St, Little Rock, AR at 8:00 AM on August TBD for the in-person psychological exam..
Pre-employment: Medical exams	August 24th- September 4th..  Medical exam location and appointment dates and times will be released after offer letters have been accepted. You will need to call 501) 371 - 4662 or (501) 371 - 4590 to schedule a date and time for your medical. Please note this exam is not the same as the psychological examination.
Pre-employment: Fingerprinting	August 24th- September 4th..  Location information and hours will be sent via email. Consent forms will be available on the applicants NeoGov profile—these forms must be signed and submitted prior to reporting to LiveScan to be fingerprinted.
Pre-employment: Background checks	August 24th- September 1st.. Links for background consent will be sent via email—consent forms must be signed and submitted no later than September 1st, 2026.
Pre-boarding	September 4th- September 15th..
Tentative Academy Start Date	September 21st, 2026
