Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Digital Engineer in Beavercreek, Ohio to support the development of advanced electronic warfare, signal-processing, and embedded mission capabilities for military and intelligence customers. This role contributes to the design, implementation, integration, and optimization of high-performance digital solutions for systems operating in complex and contested electromagnetic environments.

Our Beavercreek team offers a highly collaborative, small-team environment within a larger enterprise. Engineers here work across integrated teams and disciplines to develop advanced technologies and products supporting critical customer missions. This role works closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware, Software, Digital Engineering, and Integration & Test to define architectures, guide implementation, solve difficult integration challenges, and deliver mission-relevant capability in a fast-paced development environment.

We are looking for a technically strong and mission-focused engineer who is comfortable owning difficult digital development problems, driving sound engineering decisions, mentoring other engineers, and contributing across the full development lifecycle from concept through integration, test, and delivery. The ideal candidate will bring strength in one or more areas such as firmware development, FPGA implementation, digital signal processing, or hardware-integrated digital systems.

Why This Role Is Exciting

  • Mission-Driven Work: Lead development of advanced digital capabilities supporting critical customer missions in electronic warfare and contested operational environments
  • Technical Leadership: Influence architecture, implementation strategy, integration approach, and design tradeoffs for real-time embedded mission systems
  • Hands-On Impact: Contribute directly to design, development, simulation, hardware integration, debugging, and validation of high-performance digital solutions
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Work across systems, hardware, software, digital engineering, and integration teams to align design decisions with mission objectives
  • Advanced Applications: Support real-time signal-processing and embedded solutions for advanced EW applications in complex electromagnetic environments

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering discipline with 14 years of experience; or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering discipline with 12 years of experience; PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering discipline with 10 years of related experience.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: firmware development, FPGA implementation, digital signal processing, or embedded digital systems development
  • Experience with digital development through simulation, integration, test, and debug
  • Hands-on prototyping and debug experience with complex digital subsystems, including systems involving FPGAs, embedded processors, high-speed interfaces, digital communications, or hardware/software integrated solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small technical efforts, work effectively across cross-functional teams, and translate system performance and operational requirements into implementation, integration, and test approaches
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance is required
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in Beavercreek, Ohio

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • Experience with electronic warfare systems or EW-related applications
  • Experience with embedded processors, high-speed interfaces, firmware development, FPGA design flows, or hardware/software integration
  • Experience implementing real-time DSP functions such as filtering, channelization, modulation/demodulation, FFTs, or similar techniques in firmware, FPGA-based systems, or other digital implementations
  • Experience with digital communications, RF signal-processing chains, or contested-spectrum applications
  • Experience with technical leadership, mentoring, and communication across engineering teams and stakeholders
  • Current Secret, Top Secret, or Top Secret/SCI clearance
