We are seeking an experienced Hull Structure Designer (Construction Support – CS) with 5–10 years of experience in marine and shipbuilding projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and design support to shipyard production teams, resolving hull structure-related design issues, updating structural drawings and 3D models, and ensuring structural accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications and applicable marine standards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide construction and production support for hull structure activities in marine and shipbuilding projects.
- Review, update, and revise hull structure design deliverables, including hull structural arrangement and construction drawings, shell plating and hull plate development drawings, deck, bulkhead, and longitudinal structural drawings, transverse and longitudinal framing arrangements, stiffener, bracket, and structural connection details, structural foundations, reinforcements, and supporting arrangements, block assembly, fabrication, and erection drawings, 2D structural drawings and 3D hull structure models
- Review shop drawings and production information to identify discrepancies and resolve structural design-related issues.
- Provide technical support to shipyard production teams during hull fabrication, assembly, erection, and installation activities.
- Resolve technical queries (TQs), structural discrepancies, production issues, and fabrication-related design problems.
- Incorporate engineering changes, production feedback, and redline mark-ups into structural drawings and 3D models.
- Coordinate with Naval Architecture, Machinery Outfitting, Piping, HVAC, Electrical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper design integration and avoid clashes.
- Review structural drawings, fabrication details, and engineering documentation to ensure compatibility with vessel design requirements and production methods.
- Verify structural member arrangements, plate thicknesses, stiffener details, brackets, and connections against approved design documentation.
- Ensure hull structure drawings comply with project specifications, applicable classification society rules, marine standards, and shipyard construction requirements.
- Participate in constructability reviews and identify potential structural conflicts, fabrication constraints, and assembly difficulties before execution.
- Review production feedback and recommend appropriate structural modifications to facilitate fabrication, assembly, and erection activities.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, production personnel, and other disciplines to ensure timely resolution of technical and structural issues.
- Maintain updated structural drawings, technical records, and documentation in accordance with project procedures.
- Support as-built drawing updates and incorporate final fabrication and production modifications, where required.
- Ensure construction support design deliverables are completed within agreed project schedules and quality requirements.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in hull structure design within marine, shipbuilding, shipyard, or offshore vessel projects.
- Hands-on experience in Construction Support (CS), shipyard production support, and structural drawing modifications.
- Strong experience in hull structural arrangements, shell plating, decks, bulkheads, stiffeners, brackets, and structural connection details.
- Proficiency in marine 3D design software, preferably AVEVA Marine / Hull & Outfitting, or other shipbuilding CAD software accepted by the client.
- Experience reviewing and modifying 2D structural drawings, 3D hull models, fabrication drawings, block assembly drawings, and erection drawings.
- Good understanding of hull construction methods, structural fabrication, welding details, block assembly, and shipyard production requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, structural details, fabrication drawings, production mark-ups, and technical documentation.
- Experience resolving technical queries and supporting shipyard production teams during hull fabrication and assembly activities.
- Familiarity with marine classification society rules, applicable shipbuilding standards, structural design requirements, and project specifications.
- Experience coordinating with Naval Architecture, Machinery Outfitting, Piping, HVAC, Electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Experience in new-build shipbuilding projects, offshore vessels, FPSOs, or similar marine engineering projects is preferred.
- Exposure to international shipyards, marine EPC contractors, or multidisciplinary engineering environments is preferred.
- Strong technical problem-solving, drawing interpretation, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a project-driven engineering and shipyard production environment.
