Overview
Kimley-Horn is seeking a Sr. Transmission Engineer to help expand our Power Delivery team in Pasadena, CA. This role provides an exciting opportunity for a driven and entrepreneurial professional to support a practice focused on Transmission and Distribution. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise and will guide initiatives from project inception through delivery. This position is in-office/in-person.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Growth:
- Support the growth in our Power Delivery practice.
- Serve as a mentor and leader to develop junior staff and create a positive and collaborative work culture.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including local utility companies, developers, and industry stakeholders.
- Support the firm’s mission of operating with integrity, honesty, and sound business principles.
Technical and Project Management:
- Direct and oversee technical work for Power Delivery projects, including:
- Transmission and Distribution Design (Overhead and Underground)
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as NESC, IEEE, NERC, GO, and local utility standards.
- Lead the preparation of technical deliverables, such as engineering plans, specifications, and reports.
- Assist with permitting and coordinating with regulators for timely project approvals.
- Use technical tools such as AutoCAD, PLS-CADD Design Suite, MFAD, CAISSON, SAG10, LPile for design and analysis.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue project opportunities and proposals for Power Delivery contracts, including design-build, design bid build, EPC and public-private partnerships.
- Prepare winning proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and budgets.
- Establish and expand new client relationships while maintaining exceptional service with existing ones.
Operational Excellence:
- Manage projects profitably and ensure efficient use of resources and staffing.
- Oversee and enforce quality control practices to exceed client expectations.
- Effectively coordinate with internal interdisciplinary teams to deliver seamless solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering field (Master’s preferred).
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in Power Delivery (transmission, substation, power studies/design, or related fields).
- Demonstrated business development experience, including proposal writing and building strong client networks.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead project teams, engage stakeholders, and represent the firm positively.
- Experience in mentoring and managing other professionals, with a proven ability to build high-performing teams.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a results-oriented approach to growing a practice.
Salary Range:$145,000 to $170,000
