Electrician Maintenance (Generator Mechanic)


Location: Junction City, Kansas – Fort Riley

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift

Compensation: $30.00 - $30.00 per hour

Tessera is seeking a skilled and experienced Electrician with a positive attitude.


Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform monthly preventive maintenance and repairs on IC engines, diesel generators.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automatic transfer switches (ATS) and annunciator panels.
  • Repair switch gear, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly (Annual).
  • Inspect, operate, and test industrial equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Plan and lay out work using diagrams, drawings, manuals, and schematic diagrams.
  • Keep records of maintenance, work performed and cost of work.
  • Test batteries, fuel coolant and oil. Transport and dispose hazardous materials (Oils, antifreeze, batteries).
  • Communicate and interact directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
  • Ensure completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customer.
  • Communicate with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Assist with orienting and training new employees and assist in work assignments.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team.
  • Must be able to respond to after-hour calls in case of emergency power outage.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Three (3) years of electrical systems and controls experience required.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • NFPA 70E certified preferred.
  • Arc Flash and ATS Training preferred.
  • Cat Electric Power I or II training preferred.
  • Must have direct experience working on commercial generators and controls.
  • Must be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and from manlifts.
  • Must have good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and a good sense of balance.

 

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis. 

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
