Reporting to the Director, Co-op, Career, & Experiential Education, the Associate Director, Experiential Education works in partnership to translate CCEE's strategic direction into effective Experiential Education (EE) operations, initiatives and partnerships, while bringing forward evidence, emerging opportunities and recommendations to inform portfolio-level planning and decision-making. The incumbent leads a complex, multidisciplinary team working across diverse Faculty and academic contexts. The incumbent provides direction that supports consistency and alignment across the EE portfolio while recognizing the distinct needs, relationships, priorities, and operating contexts of individual Faculties. The incumbent oversees experiential education policy, programming, operations and continuous improvement, and represents the University on matters pertaining to experiential education.
The Associate Director, Experiential Education provides leadership and direction to the EE team, establishing shared priorities, decision-making approaches and ways of working that support effective collaboration, accountability and service across the University. The incumbent is also responsible for creating and nurturing relationships with the broader team of Co-op, Career and Experiential Education (CCEE) and other critical internal and external partners to the University, including community organizations and other academic institutions. They promote knowledge mobilization and management of day-to-day operations alongside supporting CCEE’s leadership in co-operative, career and experiential learning.
The Associate Director, Experiential Education will:
- Develop and uphold strategy to engage and retain local, national and international organizations for the purpose of developing curricular-based experiential learning partnerships;
- Provide leadership and guidance to EE staff in navigating complex Faculty, departmental and institutional relationships;
- Ensure that Faculty relationships and individual portfolio approaches remain connected to broader CCEE and University priorities;
- Work with community and institutional partners to identify appropriate approaches to evaluating partnerships and EE initiatives, and use findings to strengthen relationships, programs and outcomes;
- Oversee and ensure collaboration with cross-functional multi-disciplinary experiential education staff and Faculty to maintain consistent practice, data reporting and tracking;
- Establish shared approaches, principles and decision-making frameworks that promote consistency across EE while allowing appropriate flexibility;
- Lead the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives that improve program quality, partnerships, student and partner satisfaction, staff capability and performance;
- Ensure equity, diversity and inclusion best practices are embedded at the foundational level of all experiential education services;
- Oversee and ensure the maintenance and engagement with a database of EE opportunities at local, national, and international levels;
- Develop and oversee appropriate approaches to evaluate EE programs, services, partnerships and initiatives;
- Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative evidence to assess program effectiveness, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and inform strategic decision-making;
- Manage the Experiential Education budget and contribute to the CCEE annual budget planning process, aligning resources with established strategic priorities;
- Translate CCEE and University strategic priorities into operational plans, initiatives and priorities for Experiential Education;
- Oversee the administration and stewardship of external funding received to support experiential education initiatives;
- Ensure alignment of EE work, resources and processes across Faculties and departments while recognizing appropriate differences in Faculty context and program needs.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Experience in the field of experiential education, adult education with program and policy development;
- Experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role, including strategic planning functions;
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex organizational environments with multiple partners and competing priorities;
- Strong understanding of experiential education theories and the strategic role career and experiential education has in a university environment;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in adult education, teaching and facilitation;
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate with executive level internal and external partners;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in program evaluation, assessment and continuous improvement, with the ability to use evidence and feedback to inform program and service development;
- Competency with budgeting, data, strategic, and financial planning;
- Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, partners, and local, provincial, national, and international partners while serving as a liaison between the University and external communities;
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities independently while adapting to change, ambiguity, and evolving organizational needs;
- Ability to leverage resources effectively, conduct research, disseminate knowledge, and support continuous learning and improvement;
- Strong organizational, time management, prioritization, teamwork, and integrity-focused work practices.
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Job Grade O, Salary Scale ($90,294- 144,470);
- Target Hiring Range: $90,294-$104,000*
- This is a permanent position that includes:
