The Compensation and Benefits team assists clients and RSM professionals across the firm with respect to a variety of compensation related issues including retirement plans, executive compensation, fringe benefits and other payroll-related tax issues. Members of the team follow firm and team processes to lead client projects and communication while working with a team of individuals and assisting to train others.
We are seeking an experienced professional specializing in retirement plans to join our team to help clients and colleagues address complex technical and operational issues affecting retirement plans and employee benefits.
In this role, you will assist clients and RSM professionals across the firm with retirement plan matters, with a primary focus on qualified plans, 401(k) plans, IRAs, and ESOPs. You will work closely with engagement teams to interpret regulatory developments, provide practical guidance, and support clients in maintaining compliance while achieving their strategic objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Research, analyze, and consult on technical issues relating to qualified retirement plans, IRAs, ESOPs, and employee benefits.
- Review written guidance, technical memoranda, articles, and client communications related to retirement plan developments.
- Team with Washington National Tax professionals to monitor legislative, regulatory, and IRS developments affecting retirement plans and communicate implications to clients and engagement teams.
- Contribute to internal and external communications regarding new developments impacting qualified retirement plans and retirement plan administration.
- Train professionals across the firm on technical issues related to retirement plans, including qualification requirements, operational compliance, correction programs, and fiduciary considerations.
- Support clients with plan design, compliance reviews, operational issues, plan corrections, and transaction-related retirement plan matters.
- Collaborate with other specialty groups on issues that intersect with retirement plans, including executive compensation, payroll tax, corporate taxation, and transaction advisory services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited university
- One of the following is required: active CPA license in the state of residence or primary office; active Enrolled Agent (EA) license; or active Attorney license
- Minimum of eight years of experience including client facing roles and oversight of others
- Proactive, growth-oriented with ability to build professional network
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to meet client service, quality, and performance expectations within applicable deadlines and in accordance with firm and client standards
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with firm personnel and clients in person, by telephone, and through electronic or written means
- Effective project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy and quality of work in a fast paced, client service environment
- Ability to work effectively in a professional office environment and, as required by the role, at client sites, including the ability to sit for extended periods of time and work at a computer and other standard office equipment
- Ability to maintain consistent, onsite presence during core business hours including the ability to regularly report to a firm office location and travel to client sites as required, including access to reliable transportation
- Ability to work extended and/or non standard hours during peak periods or as necessary to meet client, project, or firm business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with various industries and ownership structures including publicly and privately owned companies, private equity, family offices, exempt organizations and state and local governments
- 10+ years of qualified retirement plan experience in public accounting or plan administration
- Strategic, growth-minded, and self-motivated
- QKA, CPC, QKC, QPA or similar

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $149,800 - $301,400Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
