Do you enjoy the energy of competitive swimming and have a knack for technology, organization, and keeping things running smoothly? The City of Medford is looking for a Swim Meet Specialist to help bring swim meets to life at Rogue X.
In this hands-on role, you’ll help set up and operate the timing system, work with touchpads, scoreboard and meet-management equipment, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and help ensure accurate results throughout each event. You’ll work alongside staff, coaches, volunteers, and participants in a fast-paced aquatic environment where attention to detail and great communication make a difference.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; and
- Two (2) years of experience in aquatics, recreation, competitive athletics, event operations, or a related field. Experience should include responsibilities involving event coordination or support, computer systems/data entry, scoring or timing systems, or similar technical responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior aquatics competition scoring system experience.
- Experience with Hy-Tek Meet Manager and Colorado Timing Systems.
Available Schedule:
- Primarily Friday - Saturday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Hours may vary based on facility needs.
The anticipated hiring range for the Swim Meet Specialist position is $23.05 (first step) to $24.21 or $25.50 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Three steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

- Set up and removes timing system components and quickly replace components, if necessary, during events.
- Provides effective and efficient technical support during swim meets of various sizes by operating the meet management and/or scoreboard computer.
- Performs data entry, including inputting and maintaining the master score sheet.
- In the event of an equipment malfunction or failure, manually records results and disseminate as necessary.
- Adheres to facility standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attend staff meetings and training specifically related to competitive events.
- Follows policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and emergencies.
- Maintains competition scoring equipment
- Completes designated job tasks, special projects, and all other duties as assigned to meet team, department, and City goals while working cooperatively, efficiently, and productively in a team environment.

This position works indoors with exposure to regulated and moderate environmental conditions at the work site. Noise levels are frequently moderate to loud from spectators, timing systems, and pool facility acoustics. There may be routine physical discomforts from prolonged exposure to heat, humidity, moisture/wetness, and varying air conditions with temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. The position involves routine exposure to wet surfaces, chlorinated pool water, and light cleaning or event staging materials.
The position involves regular standing, walking, bending, sitting, and kneeling on wet pool decks and in control booth or office areas. Frequently uses hands and fingers to operate computers, timing consoles, buttons, tools, and meet equipment. Tasks require the ability to perceive depth, sounds, and visual cues. Occasionally lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries timing systems, stanchions, lane lines, and event supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Communicate verbally, including projecting voice over background noise and hearing in an active aquatic facility.
