This recruitment will hire for one (1) position. In addition to the current opening, this recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future Industrial Engine Mechanics (West Point Treatment Plant) Career Service vacancies within the Wastewater Treatment Division over the next 6 months.




Join the West Point Maintenance team as an Industrial Engine Mechanic, maintaining and repairing critical engine systems, including backup generators and the plant’s cogeneration system. This hands-on role directly supports reliable wastewater treatment and provides an opportunity to use and expand your technical skills while working on a variety of industrial engine equipment.


About the Role:

The Industrial Engine Mechanic maintains and repairs diesel and biogas engines, generators, pumps, and related systems at West Point and offsite facilities throughout King County. This role performs preventive and corrective maintenance, responds to equipment issues, and works closely with Operations and other trades to help keep critical wastewater systems safe, reliable, and available when needed.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and overhaul engine-driven equipment and generator power systems (up to 13.09 KV), including power generation systems, diesel standby emergency generators, large-bore co-generating engines, engine-driven pumps, and all related ancillary equipment, including the COGEN.

  • Maintain accurate records of emission testing and tuning for SI co-generation and pump engine equipment as required.

  • Maintain records of fuel tank testing, permit inspections, and certifications for all aboveground and underground fuel tanks as required by the DOE.

  • Inspect and test equipment to ensure proper operation, safety compliance, and adherence to established maintenance standards.

  • Organize and maintain accurate equipment history records to support cost-effective and efficient work practices.

  • Collaborate with other trades and operations staff as needed to support plant and offsite maintenance activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and overhaul engine-driven equipment, including diesel and biogas generators, engine-driven pumps, and related ancillary systems.

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical controls (up to 13.09 KV), and instrumentation used in industrial engine and cogeneration operations.

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment history records to perform accurate maintenance and repairs.

  • Commitment to safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Ability to organize, document, and maintain accurate maintenance records for equipment, emissions, and fuel systems.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with trades, operations staff, and supervisors.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • A valid Washington State Drivers License.


It Would Be Great If You Also Bring:

  • Advanced Knowledge and hands on experience with all aspects of maintenance, overhaul, repair and testing of Diesel and/or multi fuel Engines.

  • Factory training in (CAT, Cummins, Waukesha) engines etc.

  • Boom truck operator certification.

  • UST operator certification.

  • CDL certification (Class B CDL with Tanker (N) and Hazardous Materials (H) endorsements).


Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires flexibility to work varied hours and report during adverse or inclement weather conditions.

  • Incumbents perform field and shop work at the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities. Work involves lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders in and out of tanks, and working in confined spaces.

  • Employees regularly operate heavy machinery, rigging, and power tools, and work around high noise levels, noxious odors, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces.

  • Must be able to safely perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching while completing maintenance, repair, and installation work.


Workplace Exposures:

  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors in an industrial wastewater environment under all weather conditions.

  • Employees are regularly exposed to chemicals, biohazards, and high noise levels.

  • Position requires entry into confined spaces and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, as needed.

  • Employees must follow safety protocols to minimize exposure to potential hazards while performing maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.

Working Conditions:
  • Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by SEIU Local 925 - Wastewater Treatment Division.
