Relocate to Ottawa/Gatineau and lead the transformation of a well-established accounting function.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished finance executive to take the helm of a sophisticated, multi-entity accounting operation and shape its next stage of evolution. Your vision, leadership and technology-forward mindset will influence how the organization approaches controllership, financial reporting, systems, automation and operational excellence across the enterprise.

For a leader ready to make a meaningful impact, this role offers significant scope, executive visibility and the opportunity to modernize an established accounting function while developing a high-performing team.

Relocation: We are open to candidates currently located anywhere within Canada who are willing to relocate to the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Relocation assistance is available.

Work Authorization: Candidates must already be legally entitled to work in Canada through Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or a valid Canadian work permit in order to be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Controllership Excellence & Financial Close

  • Oversee all aspects of controllership, including accounting operations, consolidations, financial close, intercompany accounting, and balance sheet governance across multi‑entity structures.
  • Drive a disciplined, predictable, and accelerated close cycle with strong analytical rigor, reduced manual intervention, and clear accountability.
  • Ensure high‑quality financial master data, chart‑of‑accounts governance, and standardized accounting policies across the enterprise.

Enterprise Financial Leadership

  • Set the long‑term financial governance strategy for the organization, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, investor expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CFO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on financial performance, emerging risks, capital allocation, and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee enterprise‑wide financial integrity, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent reporting that meets public‑company standards.

Public‑Company Reporting, Governance & Disclosure

  • Lead the preparation, review, and governance of quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, and public disclosures, ensuring compliance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP, securities regulations, and exchange requirements.
  • Partner with Investor Relations to support earnings preparation, investor messaging, and disclosure controls.
  • Maintain a robust Disclosure Controls & Procedures (DC&P) framework, ensuring consistent, audit‑ready documentation and evidence.

SOX, Internal Controls & Audit Management

  • Own the SOX/ICFR program, including risk assessment, control design, documentation, testing oversight, deficiency evaluation, and remediation.
  • Strengthen automated controls, system access governance, and segregation‑of‑duties frameworks.
  • Lead coordination with internal and external auditors, ensuring efficient audit cycles, timely issue resolution, and strong stakeholder communication.

Financial Systems, Automation & Data Modernization

  • Champion modernization of finance systems, including ERP, consolidation, reporting, and workflow platforms.
  • Drive automation, analytics, and AI adoption across accounting, reporting, and transactional finance processes to improve accuracy, speed, and scalability.
  • Oversee data governance, system interfaces, master data quality, and technology risk mitigation.

Operational Finance & Transactional Excellence

  • Provide leadership across settlements, accounts payable/procure‑to‑pay, billing, lender reporting, and debt compliance.
  • Ensure operational finance processes are efficient, controlled, and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Lead financial integration and disposition accounting for acquisitions, divestitures, and acquisitions, divestitures and strategic transactions.

Strategic Finance & Business Partnership

  • Build trusted relationships with Operations, Commercial, Technology, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Internal Audit, and external stakeholders.
  • Translate complex financial, accounting, and operational matters into clear insights and recommended actions for senior leadership.
  • Support strategic decision‑making through scenario analysis, risk evaluation, and financial modeling.

Leadership, Culture & Organizational Development

  • Lead and develop multi‑layered teams, building succession depth, clarity of roles, and strong decision rights.
  • Foster a high‑performance culture grounded in ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Sponsor change management initiatives, ensuring strong adoption of new systems, processes, and operating models.

Risk Management & Financial Stewardship

  • Identify emerging financial, operational, and regulatory risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure strong balance sheet governance, cash‑flow visibility, and financial discipline across the organization.
  • Maintain a forward‑looking perspective on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics that impact financial operations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced senior accounting and finance executive with deep technical expertise, exceptional judgment, and a proven ability to lead large, multi‑layered teams through complex change. You will bring more than fifteen (15) years of progressive accounting and finance experience within sophisticated, public‑company or infrastructure environments, paired with an active CPA designation and mastery of IFRS, U.S. GAAP, enterprise close, and SOX/ICFR. You will self-describe as a transformative leader who modernizes systems, elevates controls, and drives automation while fostering a high‑performance culture grounded in ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. With strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills, they convert complexity into clarity and deliver predictable, high‑quality financial outcomes across a multi‑entity platform.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Demonstrated excellence in people leadership, including mentoring multi‑layered teams, building succession depth, and guiding organizations through significant change with high engagement and adoption.
  • Hands‑on expertise applying automation, analytics, workflow tools, or AI to modernize accounting and transactional finance processes, reducing manual touchpoints and improving productivity.
  • Deep operational breadth, with experience overseeing settlements, procure‑to‑pay, lender reporting, or multi‑entity accounting operations in a highly regulated, fast‑paced environment.
  • Industry fluency in complex, asset-intensive or highly regulated industries
