Job Description:

Control Assessor (BCC Cairo)

Egypt

Full time

We make health happen:

The core purpose of this role is to deliver first line Key Control testing across UKI, including Functions, and to support Bupa Global control testing activity where required. Reporting into the Key Control Manager in BCC Cairo, the Control Assessor will perform testing in line with agreed scripts, methodology, evidence standards and timelines, helping the first line evidence that controls are designed and operating effectively. The role will identify and clearly articulate control findings, agree appropriate actions with control owners, maintain high-quality records and support continuous improvement of the control environment, with a strong focus on customer outcomes, regulatory expectations and operational discipline.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

As our Control Assessor you will be responsible for completing first line Key Control testing across UKI, including Functions, and supporting Bupa Global activity where required. You will work closely with the Key Control Manager, business control owners, UKI stakeholders and Risk and Compliance colleagues to assess whether key controls are operating effectively, ensure testing conclusions are evidence based, and help drive timely remediation where weaknesses are identified.

  • Conduct Key Control testing in line with documented testing scripts, agreed methodology, evidence standards and defined timelines, ensuring consistency and quality across UKI testing activity.
  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of key controls, using sound judgement to determine whether controls are suitably evidenced and operating as intended.
  • Document testing outcomes clearly and accurately, ensuring conclusions, evidence, gaps and rationale are recorded to a high standard and can withstand review by management, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit or regulators.
  • Agree SMART actions with control owners where deficiencies are identified, and support tracking and follow-up activity through to satisfactory closure.
  • Provide concise written and verbal feedback to control owners and stakeholders, explaining findings, evidence expectations and required remediation in a clear, constructive and professional manner.
  • Support control testing across regulated activities, customer outcomes, operational resilience, conduct risk, financial crime, data quality, third party oversight and other UKI priority control areas as required.
  • Contribute to control performance reporting, findings summaries and action tracking updates by providing accurate testing status, themes, issues and supporting commentary.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the Key Control Manager, UKI business control owners, Functional teams, Bupa Global colleagues and Risk and Compliance stakeholders, recognising the importance of collaboration in strengthening control ownership.
  • Identify and escalate control issues, evidence gaps, recurring themes and opportunities to improve control documentation, testing scripts, reporting quality and ways of working.
  • Support preparation for RCSA activity, second line assurance reviews, Internal Audit activity and regulatory queries by ensuring testing records, evidence and action updates are complete, timely and accurate.
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulatory, policy and operational requirements, and complete all required training to support effective delivery of control testing responsibilities.

Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Experience in control testing, assurance, monitoring, operations, compliance, risk management or a regulated business environment is desirable.
  • Understanding of processes, risks and key control points, with the ability to evaluate whether controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively.
  • Awareness of FCA rules, conduct expectations, ICOBS principles and Treating Customers Fairly requirements, and how these apply to Bupa’s regulated activities and customer experience.
  • Ability to follow defined testing scripts and methodology, gather relevant evidence, assess evidence quality and document clear testing conclusions.
  • Sound reasoning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify control gaps, assess potential impact and recommend proportionate remediation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain findings, evidence requirements and agreed actions clearly and constructively to varied stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and high standards of record keeping, data quality and evidence management.
  • Ability to manage allocated work independently, prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and escalate promptly where support, clarification or decisions are required.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across UKI, Functions, Bupa Global, BCC Cairo and second and third line colleagues.
  • PC literate, with sound knowledge of Microsoft applications and the ability to use risk, control, workflow or reporting tools as required.
  • The jobholder works in a regulated environment and must operate in line with regulatory, operational, policy and testing methodology requirements. In any situation of uncertainty, the jobholder must refer to the Key Control Manager or relevant accountable owner.
