What you’ll be doing...
Type of Work: Strategic leadership, executive technical sponsorship, and cross-functional management. The daily focus is on leading a team of technical experts, overseeing overarching architectural strategies—spanning traditional underlay networks (MPLS, Dedicated Internet, Broadband), modern overlays (SD-WAN, SASE), Private 5G ecosystems, and advanced VoIP modernization efforts—and removing roadblocks to drive multi-million-dollar deals from discovery to closing.
Expected Volumes: Managing a high-performing team of Solution Architects who are concurrently handling multiple enterprise-level deal cycles and automation projects. You will navigate a highly matrixed environment, managing executive-level relationships with internal teams, external OEM partners, and C-level customer stakeholders.
Risk & Criticality: You are accountable for the foundational telecom, cloud, security, voice, and wireless enterprise infrastructure designed by your team. Failure to properly allocate resources, vet architectural designs, or align OEM vendors and implementation teams can stall major revenue opportunities. Poor oversight can lead to deployment failures, SLA breaches, or lost enterprise contracts.
What we’re looking for...
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Hire, coach, and manage a team of Pre-Sales Solution Architects. Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Executive Deal Sponsorship: Act as the executive technical sponsor and escalation point for high-stakes enterprise deals. Step in to navigate complex multi-vendor negotiations (including UCaaS/CPaaS and networking OEMs) and drive alignment between Sales, Product Management, and Implementation teams.
- Architectural Oversight & Legacy Modernization: Maintain accountability for the team's designs. Steer overarching strategies to transition legacy enterprise accounts from physical PRI/TDM and global MPLS networks to resilient, cloud-hosted SIP architectures and internet-first (DIA/Broadband) SD-WAN/SASE overlays.
- Strategic Alignment & 5G GTM: Partner with Sales Leadership to define technical Go-To-Market strategies for cutting-edge Private 5G and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) solutions, ensuring the right mix of RAN, Core, and IP architects are allocated.
- Deal & Technical Escalation: Serve as the executive point of escalation for complex pre-sales roadblocks. Step in to unblock stalled architectural disagreements with internal Product teams, and smooth out critical handoff friction between Pre-Sales and Implementation teams.
- Architectural & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the team’s solution designs strictly adhere to internal standards, delivery capabilities, and regional telecom regulatory requirements (e.g., data sovereignty, local VoIP routing laws) prior to contract signature.
- Strategic Product Advocacy: Aggregate field feedback—such as gaps in global broadband footprints, MPLS offloading challenges, or specific 5G network slicing requests—to act as the primary voice of the customer to VP-level Product Management.
- AI/Automation Acumen: Sponsor and integrate LLM APIs (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI) to drive internal team efficiencies and streamline complex sales engineering workflows.
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecom/IT/Communications or a relevant engineering field.
- 9+ years of relevant work experience in the telecom or tech industry, with 3+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, or leading technical pre-sales teams.
- Comprehensive Core Networking: Deep architectural understanding of traditional and modern WAN solutions, including global MPLS, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), high-availability Broadband aggregation, and Software Defined Networking (SDN/SD-WAN).
- Advanced Wireless & 5G: Strong knowledge of cellular networks, LTE, Private 5G, and IoT ecosystems.
- Voice/UC Expertise: Strong understanding of overarching VoIP architectures, Session Border Controllers (SBCs), SIP trunking, and contact center modernization paths.
- Cloud Computing Expertise: Proven experience overseeing the design and integration of telecom solutions within public, private, or hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Proven ability to orchestrate complex technical workflows across a matrixed organization, driving executive alignment between sales, technical, and delivery teams.
- Ability to quickly learn, understand, and guide your team on emerging technologies and methodologies in the telecommunications and cloud space.
- Security, architecture, and industry certifications such as CCNP (Automation/Data Center/Wireless), ITIL Foundation, or equivalent.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
