Job summary
Owns the technical support and administration of assigned clinical systems and the technology that supports care delivery. Partners with clinicians, the Systems Administrator, help desk, network and security teams, and vendors to maintain reliable workflows and provide defined operational backup.
Job duties and responsibilities
Clinical systems support
- Administer and support assigned clinical applications, devices, and supporting infrastructure, including Launch Point, IdProducer, Mindray, Vocera, Hill-Rom Nurse Call, eKinnex, OneView, AvaSure remote monitoring, Baxter IV pumps, pulmonary pumps, EKG systems, Versa Badge, and Bellavista as needed. Responsibilities include system configuration, user access, device connectivity, workflow support, and administration of associated servers within the role’s assigned scope.
- Use the configuration management database (CMDB) to document and maintain clinical system support information, including primary and backup support staff, vendor contacts, Summit’s ownership and support responsibilities, service level agreements (SLAs), and support hours.
- Manage approved configurations, accounts, access roles, updates, interfaces, device connectivity, and vendor-supported components within the role’s assigned scope.
- Administer assigned door badge access systems, including approved badge provisioning, access changes, account troubleshooting, and access records. Coordinate authorization with Security, Facilities, and department owners, and escalate door hardware or physical security issues to the responsible team.
- Coordinate badge creation and access for glucometers and Pyxis with the appropriate clinical and security owners.
- Support temperature monitoring and data logging systems for vaccine refrigerators and freezers, including assigned sensors, connectivity, application access, alert routing, data retrieval, and vendor coordination. Validate logging and alert delivery with Pharmacy and clinical owners after changes; document technical downtime procedures and promptly escalate monitoring failures to the responsible clinical team.
- Monitor system availability and interface health; investigate incidents, coordinate with vendors and clinical owners, and resolve or escalate technical and workflow issues.
- Support AvaSure remote monitoring technology, including assigned cameras and endpoints, application access, connectivity, vendor escalation, and testing with clinical teams. Document first-response and downtime procedures for care areas using the service.
- Maintain system inventories, application dependencies, support contacts, access procedures, and downtime and recovery documentation.
Clinical devices and help desk support
- Build, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot workstation on wheels and computer on wheels carts, including connected devices and standard clinical applications.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 help desk support for clinical users and systems; triage requests, resolve issues within scope, and route infrastructure, network, security, or vendor issues to the appropriate owner.
- Support EKG systems and pulmonary pumps within the assigned IT scope, including device connectivity, application configuration, access, data transfer, technical troubleshooting, and post-change validation. Coordinate clinical functionality testing and equipment service with clinical owners and the BioMed vendor.
- Serve as the primary IT liaison and point of contact for the BioMed vendor. Coordinate service requests, incident escalation, vendor access, scheduled maintenance, equipment onboarding, and technical handoffs with clinical departments, the Systems Administrator, and network and security staff. Maintain vendor contacts and shared records of service activity, dependencies, and unresolved issues; coordinate equipment repair, calibration, and safety testing with the BioMed vendor and responsible clinical owners.
Clinical collaboration and change control
- Gather clinical and operational requirements, assess how proposed changes affect patient care and workflows, and communicate changes to affected teams.
- Coordinate testing, user acceptance, implementation, and follow-up monitoring through the approved change control process.
- Test clinical applications, representative devices, sign-in and badge workflows, and peripherals when updating physical and virtual desktop images, applying monthly desktop patches, making virtualization changes (such as Omnissa), or updating thin and zero client firmware (such as 10ZiG).
- Support pilot deployments and confirm clinical systems and workflows function correctly after implementation.

Clinical Systems Maintenance and Recovery
- Coordinate planned updates, Windows patching, and security patches for assigned clinical applications, devices, and supporting servers with the Systems Administrator, clinical owners, and vendors. Confirm vendor compatibility, schedule maintenance, validate clinical functions and interfaces, and document deferred patches and follow-up plans.
- Work with the Systems Administrator and vendors to establish and maintain backups of assigned clinical systems, including application data and configurations. Monitor backup status and resolve or escalate failures.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures with clinical owners, the Systems Administrator, and vendors. Document recovery priorities, acceptable downtime and data loss, system dependencies, restoration steps, support contacts, and clinical downtime procedures.
- Participate in scheduled backup restoration and disaster recovery testing. Confirm restored systems support clinical workflows, document results, and address identified gaps.
- During any time the Systems Administrator may be out, follow approved procedures for triage, routine changes, restoration, and escalation.
Shared coverage and continuity
- Maintain current diagrams, inventories, configuration records, support procedures, vendor contacts, and recovery steps for assigned systems in shared team documentation.
- Crosstrain with the system administrator; participate in planned maintenance, incident response, testing, and handoffs so either role can provide first response and routine operational coverage.
- Escalate specialized issues to the primary owner or vendor, document the outcome, and follow change control and access approval requirements.
- Coordinate image engineering, broad patch rollouts, hypervisor changes, and complex recovery with the primary owner and IT leadership.

On Call and Incident Response
- The position may participate in scheduled on call coverage and may be required to respond to significant cybersecurity, network, or infrastructure incidents outside normal business hours in accordance with departmental procedures. Participate in an on-call or after-hours support rotation if assigned and perform related duties within the scope of the position.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate degree in information technology, health/clinical informatics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two+ years supporting clinical applications, healthcare technology, or enterprise systems preferred.
- Clinical licensure (e.g., Nursing) is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of clinical workflows and healthcare information systems, application administration, access management, interfaces, testing, incident management, and vendor coordination.
- Ability to communicate with care teams, document procedures, manage competing priorities, and protect PHI.
- Foundational knowledge of networking, operating systems, cybersecurity principles, and enterprise technology.
- Demonstrated technical troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential, sensitive, privileged, and security related information.
