Job Description:
The Exercise Physiologist / Strength & Conditioning Coach plays a key role in delivering high‑quality performance training and evidence-based physiological assessments within a multidisciplinary sports performance clinic. This role focuses on optimizing athletic performance, enhancing movement quality, reducing injury risk, and supporting return‑to‑sport programming in collaboration with physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports medicine physicians and other performance staff.The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge in human physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning principles, and demonstrates the ability to translate scientific concepts into practical, individualized training programs for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Essential Functions
Performance Training & Coaching
- Design and deliver individualized and group-based strength and conditioning programs for youth, collegiate, recreational, and professional athletes.
- Conduct movement assessments, performance testing, and periodic re-evaluations to track progress and adjust programming.
- Coach athletes in proper lifting mechanics, speed development, agility, conditioning, and recovery strategies.
- Provide on‑floor supervision to ensure safe, effective, and technically sound training sessions.
- Implement coaching for 1:1 to large group training sessions.
Exercise Physiology & Assessment
- Learn, test and interpret biomechanical assessment and force plate data and communicate objective with physicians, physical therapists, athletes, parents, coaches and athletic trainers.
- Test lactate threshold, body composition, HRV, and metabolic assessments and aggregate with wearable data to guide training decisions.
- Interpret physiological and performance data to create targeted interventions.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and high school athletic trainers to develop return‑to‑play conditioning progressions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with physical therapists and rehab professionals to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and sport performance.
- Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, coaches, and medical providers regarding progress and training recommendations.
- Maintain detailed, accurate documentation of training plans, assessments, and outcomes.
Program Development
- Assist in developing and enhancing sports performance programs, specialty group classes, and seasonal training camps.
- Contribute to community outreach, workshops, and educational events.
- Stay current with emerging research, technologies, and coaching methodologies.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field at an accredited institution.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in one or more of the following:
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist – NSCA)
- ACSM-EP (Exercise Physiologist – ACSM)
- NASM-PES or equivalent performance certification
- Experience coaching athletes in a performance or team environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working within an interdisciplinary sports medicine or rehabilitation setting.
- Familiarity with technology such as force plates, GPS systems, VALD, timing gates, or metabolic analyzers.
- Experience with return‑to‑sport or post‑rehabilitation performance programming.
- Master’s degree strongly preferred for physiology-focused roles.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
