Job Overview: The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating department in the assessment of project costs, providing accurate estimates for underground utility construction projects, and ensuring competitive bidding and proposal submissions. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and excellent project management skills.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the estimating team to ensure accurate and timely project estimates.
- Cultivate and grow existing and new business relationships and opportunities to increase revenue.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare clear and concise cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and scope.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Review bid documents and specifications for accuracy and compliance with company standards.
- Lead bid meetings and presentations to clients and stakeholders as needed.
- Monitor market trends and material costs to maintain competitive pricing.
- Develop and maintain estimating systems and best practices within the organization.
- Support strategic pursuits by coordinating resources across estimating, engineering, operations, and sales.
- Train and mentor junior estimators, providing guidance on estimating techniques and tools.
- Promote quality assurance and continuous improvement throughout the estimating process.
- Manage the bid schedule and ensure deadlines are met.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating locally within the construction industry, specifically underground utilities.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software and tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes and regulations.
