Senior Staff Software Engineer, Central Software

The Boston Dynamics Central Software (CSW) team is seeking a creative and passionate Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Central Software Cloud Engineering team, you will be instrumental in developing cloud-based services and solutions that are used across our company and integrated into our cutting-edge robots. Your responsibilities will span the full technology stack, from building robust back-end infrastructure and data processing pipelines to crafting intuitive front-end interfaces and data visualizations. The solutions you develop will focus on delivering seamless end-user experiences and expanding the reach and capabilities of our world-leading mobile robots.

Day-to-Day Activities:

• Build comprehensive full-stack features, encompassing data processing and presentation.
• Optimize and debug cloud-based distributed systems.
• Design and implement well-structured, reusable applications and libraries, collaborating closely with end-users to ensure their needs are met.
• Architect core software components that effectively address product requirements and contribute to the overall system design.
• Participate in our agile development process, coordinating work with others, identifying challenges, and communicating progress regularly.
• Mentor and upskill peers and other contributors across the organization.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with back-end server development using languages such as NodeJS, Python, C++, Go, or Rust and databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, BigQuery).
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining robust ETL/ELT pipelines for processing large-scale telemetry, operational logs, and sensor data streams from distributed systems and robotics fleets, using Airflow.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes (cloud-managed and self-hosted) for deploying and scaling distributed services
• Strong expertise in designing and implementing REST APIs, gRPC, and microservice architectures.
• Working knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, including secrets management, RBAC, service account governance, and network security.
• Familiarity with Git version control and a comfortable working proficiency in a Linux development environment.
• Bachelor’s in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical areas with 7+ years of professional experience in delivering full-stack software solutions to end-users or equivalent experience.
• Robotics experience is a plus.

We are interested in all qualified candidates eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The base pay range for this position is between $150,000 to $190,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience.  This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
