Company Description

Our client is a technology company building a modern corporate access platform for investment banks and financial institutions.

The platform brings together CRM functionality, email communications, event management, reporting, customer data integrations, and AI-powered meeting allocation into a unified system.

As the platform scales, the engineering team is tackling increasingly complex backend challenges involving high-throughput processing, relational databases, distributed services, enterprise integrations, and data infrastructure.

The company is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of its most critical backend systems and help shape the architecture supporting its next phase of growth.

What You Will Do

• Architect, build, and scale high-throughput backend systems supporting email delivery, reporting, calendars, and customer data integrations.

• Own complex backend initiatives end-to-end, from system design through implementation, deployment, and production operations.

• Develop reliable, scalable services using Java, Spring Boot, or comparable backend technologies.

• Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, including multi-tenant schemas, partitioning, and query performance.

• Build and operate production infrastructure on AWS.

• Improve system scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• Design data pipelines and backend infrastructure supporting the company's evolving AI capabilities.

• Make architectural decisions involving databases, distributed processing, integrations, and system performance.

• Collaborate with engineers and company leadership to solve challenging technical problems.

• Remain actively involved in hands-on coding while providing technical direction on major backend projects.

• Use modern AI engineering tools to improve development workflows and engineering productivity.

Ideal Candidate Background

• 8+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, or a comparable production backend stack.

• Deep knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.

• Experience designing and optimizing multi-tenant database architectures, partitioning strategies, and complex queries.

• Strong production experience with AWS.

• Demonstrated ownership of large, technically complex backend systems.

• Experience designing scalable, high-throughput systems and enterprise integrations.

• Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills.

• Proven ability to independently drive major technical initiatives while remaining hands-on.

• Experience across multiple substantial engineering roles or projects with clear individual contributions.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

• Comfortable using AI-assisted engineering tools beyond basic test generation.

• Able to work onsite in New York City five days per week.

Preferred

• Experience building email delivery, calendar, CRM, reporting, or enterprise integration systems.

• Experience with asynchronous processing, messaging systems, and distributed architectures.

• Deep experience with PostgreSQL performance optimization and schema design.

• Experience building scalable data pipelines.

• Experience supporting AI-powered products through backend and data infrastructure.

• Previous Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Tech Lead, or senior IC experience.

• Experience working in high-ownership startup or growth-stage environments.

Compensation & Benefits

• $250,000–$300,000 base salary
