Retail Floor Manager - Textiles

About Us 

A family business, and team 50 plus staff (approx 20 - apparel, home, technical, haberdashery, baby, quilting floor, 5 warehouse, 4 admin, 4 print, 3 custom orders, 7 manufacturing) a lot of moving parts. 

The role 

Fabric Centre is an established, high-volume textile retailer and wholesaler serving local, national, and international markets through our integrated retail, warehouse, and production operations. We offer comprehensive, end-to-end textile solutions.

We are seeking a high-performing, dynamic Retail Store Manager to take full operational ownership of our Somerset West flagship store, drive performance, elevate service standards, and optimize team management.

Hours:
  - Monday – Friday: 08:00 – 17:00
  - Saturdays & Public Holidays: 08:00 – 14:00

Responsibilities 

  - Strategic Floor Management: Direct total daily retail operations, ensuring peak visual standards, robust security, strict store protocols, and customer experience.
  - Team Leadership & Development: Lead, inspire, and elevate a multi-disciplinary team, including sales staff, cashiers, administrative personnel, and facility teams.
  - Operational HR & Workforce Planning: Manage end-to-end staff administration, scheduling, performance metrics, leave tracking, onboarding, and continuous professional development.
  - Service Excellence: Directly manage complex customer inquiries, resolve escalations swiftly, and implement high-touch client retention strategies.
  - Oversight: Control merchandising flow, stock efficiency, loss prevention, store budgeting, reconciliation, and expense management.
  - Strategic Alignment: Partner directly with ownership, inventory controllers, and production units to provide data-driven operational feedback and streamline workflows.
  - Policy & Compliance: Enforce full alignment with corporate policy, operational standard operating procedures, and OHASA regulatory standards.

Requirements 

  - Grade 12 required; a Tertiary qualification (Diploma/Certificate in Retail Business Management, Business Administration, HR, or related) is preferred.
  - Proven track record (2+ years) in retail store management coupled with 2+ years of high-volume sales experience.
  - Advanced proficiency in workforce administrative management, operational scheduling, and driving accountability.
  - Strong verbal and written communication abilities in both English and Afrikaans.
  - Demonstrated analytical capability in stock control, reconciliation, and process optimization.
  - Proactive leader with a strategic mindset, high emotional intelligence, and decisive problem-solving skills.
  - Valid driver’s license, reliable personal transport, clean background check, and strong computer literacy.
