Description
Job Summary
The AI Harness Junior Engineer is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for building, integrating, and operating AI-enabled capabilities within The Clearing House's Information Security program.
The role will work directly with advanced AI models, security tools, cloud environments, and development platforms to improve vulnerability discovery, threat analysis, secure development, and remediation.
This position will help translate emerging AI capabilities into practical security solutions by developing AI harnesses, integrations, automation, and repeatable workflows. The engineer will partner with Information Security, Technology, Cloud, and Development teams to test new capabilities and move successful use cases into secure, controlled operational use.
About The Clearing House: The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C. is a bank-owned industry utility that shapes the payments landscape and provides infrastructure for safe, reliable, and efficient payments. We see an economy where everyone is connected and a future where modern payments make life easier. The Clearing House operates four payment systems: a high-value wire-transfer system (the CHIPS® network), the country’s first and largest instant payments system (the RTP® network), an automated clearinghouse network (the EPN® network), and a check image exchange network (the Image Exchange Network). TCH also operates a bank account number tokenization service, runs a payments association known as the TCH Payments Authority, and maintains the rules for private-sector check image exchange through its ECCHO® business line.
Key Responsibilities
AI Engineering & Integration
- Build and maintain AI harnesses and workflows that connect advanced AI models with security tools, data, source code, and cloud environments.
- Develop integrations using APIs, Python, and other automation technologies to incorporate AI into existing security processes.
- Build workflows that allow AI models to securely interact with approved tools and data while maintaining appropriate access controls and human oversight.
- Test and evaluate new AI models, tools, and techniques for potential cybersecurity applications.
- Help transition successful AI prototypes into repeatable and supportable operational capabilities.
Security Automation & Vulnerability Management
- Develop AI-enabled workflows to identify, analyze, validate, prioritize, and support remediation of security vulnerabilities.
- Use AI to analyze infrastructure, application code, configurations, and security findings for potential vulnerabilities and attack paths.
- Develop automation to accelerate vulnerability validation and remediation while maintaining appropriate human review.
- Support repeated and continuous analysis of systems and code rather than relying solely on point-in-time security assessments.
- Help measure improvements in vulnerability coverage, remediation speed, and operational efficiency.
Threat Analysis & Security Operations
- Develop AI-assisted capabilities supporting threat hunting, alert investigation, threat modeling, and security analysis.
- Integrate AI capabilities with security telemetry and existing security platforms to help analysts investigate and understand security events.
- Work with security teams to identify manual or repetitive activities that can be safely automated or augmented using AI.
- Develop testing and validation processes to measure the accuracy and effectiveness of AI-generated security findings.
Cloud, Development & DevSecOps Integration
- Support integration of AI-enabled security capabilities into AWS environments and software development workflows.
- Work with Development and DevSecOps teams to incorporate AI-assisted security analysis into CI/CD pipelines.
- Build integrations with source code repositories, vulnerability management platforms, cloud security tools, and other approved enterprise technologies.
- Support secure deployment and operation of AI capabilities within controlled enterprise environments.
AI Security & Governance
- Implement technical controls supporting secure AI use, including access controls, logging, data protection, tool permissions, testing, and validation.
- Maintain documentation of AI workflows, integrations, architectures, and operating procedures.
- Support security, risk, audit, and governance reviews of AI-enabled capabilities.
- Help ensure AI implementations operate within established enterprise security and AI governance requirements.
Qualifications Required
- 1-5 years of experience in software engineering, cybersecurity engineering, cloud engineering, DevSecOps, AI/ML engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on programming or automation experience, preferably using Python.
- Experience working with APIs and integrating different technology platforms and data sources.
- Experience with cloud environments, preferably AWS.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, including vulnerabilities, access controls, secure development, logging, and security monitoring.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to independently prototype and test new technical solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), AI agents, model APIs, or AI orchestration/harness technologies.
- Experience with platforms such as Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI models, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
- Familiarity with agentic workflows, tool/function calling, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and model evaluation.
- Experience with security technologies such as vulnerability management platforms, SIEM/XDR, endpoint security, application security tools, or cloud security platforms.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins or similar automation platforms, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Familiarity with secure coding, vulnerability analysis, threat modeling, or attack-path analysis.
- Familiarity with NIST and other cybersecurity or AI risk management frameworks.
Role Characteristics
- Individual contributor role with no people management responsibilities.
- Hands-on engineering role with an expectation to build, test, and operate AI-enabled security capabilities.
- Combines AI/software engineering with practical cybersecurity problem solving.
- Comfortable experimenting with emerging technologies while working within established security and governance controls.
