What You’ll Do

As part of the Custodian team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s facilities. Work assignments will consist of the following:

Custodian I Building Maintenance and Cleaning Clean various surfaces like floors, desks, and windows, ensuring minimal disruption in workplaces. It includes maintaining restrooms by cleaning and restocking supplies, managing trash and recyclables, and inspecting buildings and grounds for any safety or maintenance issues. Safety and Operations Ensure that city buildings and grounds are clean and secure, managing inventory and supplies, and potentially setting up rooms for events. It also involves being available for emergencies to support city operations. Additional Responsibilities Perform routine inspections on cleaning equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and undertaking any other assigned tasks.

Custodian II Cleaning and Maintenance Duties Custodial tasks, such as cleaning floors, furniture, windows, and restrooms. Including emptying trash, managing recyclables, and maintaining equipment. Duties also extend to inspecting for cleanliness, performing deep-cleaning and emergency clean-ups, and securing buildings. Operational and Inventory Responsibilities  Minimize disruption during floor work, manage custodial supplies and inventory, and ensure adequate stock levels. This also includes covering for absent staff and assisting with the disposal of large items or waste from special events. Guidance and Emergency Support Provide training and guidance to less experienced staff, respond to emergencies, report safety issues, and set up rooms for events. It also involves working in sensitive or secure areas when necessary.

Custodian III Cleaning and Maintenance Engage in comprehensive custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. Ensure restrooms are cleaned and sanitized, and restock supplies. Clean various surfaces, including windows and walls. Perform inspections to maintain cleanliness and safety, and handle issues as needed. Undertake deep-cleaning tasks and manage outdoor areas, ensuring they are free of debris and safe. Equipment and Operations Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment, such as scrubbers and vacuums. Report any repair needs and ensure waste is disposed of properly. Transport equipment and supplies to different locations using City vehicles and set up spaces for meetings when necessary. Supervision and Coordination Guide and train entry custodial staff, focusing on safety practices. Assist in organizing daily tasks and managing supplies. Act as the contact for routine issues in the absence of a supervisor. Report any performance or safety concerns and provide backup coverage for other staff when needed.

Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements: Custodian I

• High school diploma or GED;
• Or equivalent education, and/or experience.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, required safety training.

Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements: Custodian Il

• High school diploma or GED;
• One (1) year of experience in and/or training in custodial or maintenance related field;
• Experience operating specialized custodial equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, or similar equipment
• Ability to perform advanced cleaning and assist in training others.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, required safety training.

Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements: Custodian IlI

• High school diploma or GED;
• Two (2) years of experience in and/or training in custodial or maintenance related field;
• Experience providing lead direction, training, or coordinating custodial work.
• Advanced knowledge of custodial equipment, safety standards, and facility cleaning operations.
• Certified Cleaning Technician (CCT)
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, required safety training.

Work Environment

These positions involve working in City buildings and public facilities, possibly outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends. Employees may work alone or in teams, interacting with City staff and the public. The environment includes exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and various hazards, requiring adherence to safety procedures and proper use of protective equipment.
