Senior Hydrogeologist
Location: Greater Toronto Area (Toronto / Hamilton / Woodbridge) — hybrid
Type: Full-time, permanent
Compensation: competitive, approx. $115K–$155K base + benefits
About the opportunity
A well-established engineering and environmental consultancy is expanding its hydrogeology and geothermal practice in Ontario and is looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist to act as a technical authority across a growing portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. This is a senior expert role — you’ll shape the technical work and advise clients and regulators, with real influence and no people-management overhead.
It’s a strong fit for an experienced consultant who enjoys being the trusted senior voice in the room, and the flexibility on offer makes it well suited to senior or semi-retired specialists who want to stay hands-on.
What you’ll do
- Lead and critically review conceptual models, investigation programs, dewatering strategies, and numerical groundwater modelling.
- Provide senior technical review and QA of deliverables, acting as trusted advisor to project managers, clients, and regulators.
- Deliver groundwater assessments and permitting on transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Advise on civil/geotechnical design, permitting, environmental assessments, remediation, and water-resource decisions.
- Author and defend technical work to provincial and federal regulators.
- Contribute to proposals, scoping, and risk identification, and help grow the practice and mentor developing staff.
What you’ll bring (essential)
- 15+ years’ hydrogeology experience in a consulting/delivery environment
- P.Geo or P.Eng in good standing with the relevant provincial regulator, plus a degree in hydrogeology, geology, or geological engineering.
- A strong command of provincial and federal groundwater and environmental regulations, and the ability to author and defend work to regulators.
- A delivery-focused, commercial mindset — strong on scoping, costing, and proposals.
Nice to have
- Numerical groundwater modelling (MODFLOW / FEFLOW) and/or geothermal experience.
- Transit, tunnelling, or large-infrastructure dewatering experience.
- Multi-province collaboration, bilingual English/French, or expert-witness experience.
Why apply
- A senior expert track with genuine technical influence — without the people-management load.
- A broad practice spanning transit, water, nuclear, defence, mining, and renewables.
- Hybrid working, flexible benefits, strong training and development, and flexibility suited to senior specialists.
