Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Summary

Responsible for troubleshooting and performing mechanical maintenance skills such as welding, pipe fitting, boiler making, and machine repairs. Must have skills in aligning pumps, coupling and motors.  Assist in conducting acceptance and performance test on existing or new equipment. May train and guide less experienced mechanics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1)      Install or replace auxiliary equipment and manufacture new parts for equipment.

2)      Maintain and repair hydraulic systems of machinery and equipment.

3)      Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment.

4)      Service equipment involved in the production of electricity such as, applying lubricating oil to machines.

5)      Clean equipment to assure proper operation, alignment and tolerances of moving parts.

6)      Perform safety inspections looking for safety hazards.

7)      Confer with supervisory and engineering personnel to resolve maintenance problems.

8)      Perform machinery alignments, oil analysis and vibration analysis

9)      Must be able to read precision measurement tools.

10)    Must be familiar with machine shop equipment.

11)    Inspect equipment including pumps, turbines, valves, high-voltage generators, motors, actuator equipment, turbine controls, station auxiliaries, lights and control measuring devices.

12)    Work schedule subject to change as needed to support GP & L Production Facilities

13)    Provide after-hours support on a routine basis.

14)    Maintain cleanliness of all plant areas.

15)    May be assigned to work at any GP & L Production Facility

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Four years related experience
• Train in and supplement the Operation Dept
• Work schedule subject to change as needed to support Production. ie start time, work days and shift work as necessary.
• Maintain and be willing to answer a phone 24-7
• May be assigned to work at any GP & L Power Generation Facility
• Willing to learn and work with other maintenance disciplines.

Or an equivalent combination of education, knowledge and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:      

• Four to five years experience with Power or Industrial Plant Maintenance.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           
• Mainsaver software experience.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and project software experience.
• Roto-align laser alignment equipment experience
• Vibration monitoring experience

Licenses and Certifications

• May require Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license or ability to achieve a Texas Driver’s license.
