CNC Horizontal Milling Machinist (Mid-Level)

Description

We are seeking a skilled mid-level Horizontal Milling Machinist to set up and operate manual and/or CNC horizontal milling machines to produce quality precision parts. This role is ideal for a machinist with strong setup and troubleshooting skills who can work independently while supporting production, quality, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and/or CNC horizontal milling machines
• Install and align tooling, cutters, fixtures, and workpieces
• Select appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters
• Perform machining operations such as slotting, straddle milling, keyways, splines, and precision boring
• Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and basic GD&T
• Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances
• Make adjustments to maintain part quality and efficiency
• Troubleshoot routine machining, tooling, and setup issues
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep machines clean and organized
• Complete job documentation, travelers, and inspection records
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area

Requirements

Required Qualifications

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
• 5+ years of horizontal milling experience
• Ability to perform independent setups and run jobs with minimal supervision
• Strong blueprint reading skills and basic GD&T knowledge
• Experience working with common machining materials (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.)
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators
• Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills 

  Preferred Experience

• CNC horizontal milling experience
• Conversational control or basic G-code editing
• Tool & die, aerospace, or precision manufacturing experience
• Exposure to ISO or similar quality systems

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
• Manual dexterity and attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a machine shop environment
