Power Systems Project Engineer

Description

The Power Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting our power systems initiatives and to achieve overall Riggs and CAT growth targets. This position will provide comprehensive oversight of specific power systems projects from beginning to end to ensure customer satisfaction along the timeline.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

· Order all Caterpillar and non-Cat materials and equipment from suppliers, ensuring a timely release and delivery

· Manage the start-up procedures and documentation with contractors, engineers, customers, owners, utility companies, sales staff, and service technicians

· Create and develop submittals for customer approval prior to manufacturing of components and production

· Reviews and champions on-going production progress, on a segment by segment basis, for accuracy and quality regarding production work order and customer requirements

· Tracks project costs throughout the life of the project to ensure budgets are met, and upon completion produces a Project Cost Summary

· Coordinates meetings throughout the life of the project (including project kick-off and pre & post production meetings)

· Sources, purchases, and expedites all components and accessories within the forecasted budgets

· Manage relationships with internal Riggs team, engineering firms, suppliers, contractors, and compliance to establish project scope, budget, design specifications, timelines, and implementation procedures

· Ensures project quality is consistent with design specifications; observing project construction activity when necessary; responding to system implementation problems; negotiating with retail operations, cross functional teams, and systems groups to translate program obligations.

Requirements

WHAT YOU'LL NEED 

· 5 Years of project management or engineering/engine related experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical degree (education may be waived due to on the job experience)

· Strong understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, manufacturing, supply chain, service, customer service, financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development 

· Advanced communication skills - including strong written and verbal

· Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible and high capacity to learn

· Strong electrical and mechanic aptitude.

· Excellent leadership and communication skills.

· Technical knowledge of diesel engine, electrical power generation, power distribution including engine generator sets, system integration design, assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, repair, paralleling switchgear and transfer switches, fuel systems, exhaust systems, enclosures and ancillary equipment.

· Electrical power, electrician, generator, or reciprocating engine experience is a must

· Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, including blueprints.

· Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.

· Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment.

· Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.). 

· Ability to assess customer needs and evaluate customer satisfaction.

· High proficiency with AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat.

· Excellent organizational and negotiation skills. 

· Demonstrable experience leveraging external and internal relationships and networks.

· Experience to lead groups/ people and work well with various leadership levels. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. Employee must be able to lift 25 lbs of force occasionally and 10 lbs of force frequently. 

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Work environment is 75% in the office while 25% visiting jobsites, customers, and other groups involving the project.

Overnight travel is expected to be 3-4 nights each month.
