Role Summary and Impact

As Senior Manager, Data Strategy you will help MFG teams turn data and AI capabilities into practical improvements across campaign strategy, planning and activation. This is a hybrid regional role, combining leadership of key APAC data strategy workstreams with dedicated AI strategy support for Greater China, covering China and Taiwan.

Approximately 60% of your role will focus on regional data strategy. You will help teams synthesize first-party and external data into actionable activation audiences, build understanding and adoption of first-party data tools and machine-learning frameworks, and support reporting on APAC's contribution to global first-party data initiatives. The remaining 40% will focus on executing MFG's AI market scope in Greater China—from localized training and campaign consultation to adoption monitoring and the development or localization of market-relevant AI solutions. Priorities, deliverables and quality for this AI allocation will be managed by the Associate Director, AI Strategy, APAC.

The ideal candidate brings together strong data strategy fundamentals, practical generative AI fluency and an ability to make complex capabilities useful to media practitioners. You will be comfortable working hands-on with campaign teams while coordinating across local, regional and global stakeholders.

Reporting of the Role

  • APAC Data Strategy lead for the 60% regional Data Strategy allocation
  • Associate Director, AI Strategy, APAC for the 40% Greater China AI Strategy allocation

Roles and Responsibilities

Regional Data Strategy (Approx. 60%)

  • Support the synthesis of first-party and relevant external data sources into actionable audience strategies and activation segments across APAC campaigns.
  • Advise campaign teams on the effective application of first-party data across strategy, planning and activation, aligned with platform, privacy and governance requirements.
  • Drive adoption of first-party data capabilities through consultation, training and practical support for regional and local MFG teams.
  • Develop and maintain internal education covering machine-learning frameworks, first-party data tools, use cases and activation best practices.
  • Translate technical data capabilities into clear guidance, playbooks and repeatable workflows for media practitioners.
  • Track regional progress and provide accurate, timely APAC reporting into global first-party data initiatives.
  • Gather market feedback, identify recurring capability gaps and work with regional and global specialists to improve tools, documentation and processes.

Greater China AI Strategy (Approx. 40%)

  • Work under the direction of the Associate Director, AI Strategy, APAC on Greater China AI priorities, delivery plans and quality standards.
  • Execute the full AI market scope across China and Taiwan, adapting regional priorities to local languages, cultural context, data availability and operating needs.
  • Design and deliver localized, hands-on AI workshops, training and onboarding for cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as an AI strategy partner to local MFG practice leads and relevant Google stakeholders, identifying valuable use cases and resolving adoption barriers.
  • Partner with local MFG practice leads to understand overarching needs, gather adaptation feedback, resolve implementation challenges and consult on high-priority campaigns.
  • Act as the primary MFG AI Strategy partner to local Google Media Lab leads, collaborating on priority campaign applications, market adoption focus areas, toolkit customization, data governance, measurement and reporting, and the identification of new opportunities requiring solutions.
  • Advise Tier 1 campaign teams on deploying verified AI agents and workflows across live campaign activity.
  • Track market-level adoption, WPP Open usage and governance compliance; report progress and risks to regional stakeholders.
  • Architect, localize and pilot market-specific AI tools or custom agents where approved regional solutions do not fully address local needs.
  • Apply regional measurement frameworks to assess time savings, output quality, campaign value and business impact.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

In 3 months, you will have:

  • Built strong working relationships with APAC data leadership, the Associate Director and AVP of AI Strategy, Greater China practice teams, relevant Google stakeholders and global first-party data partners.
  • Assessed current first-party data adoption and education needs across APAC and established a baseline view of Greater China AI adoption and priority opportunities.
  • Taken ownership of the relevant APAC data reporting cadence and Greater China AI tracking requirements.

In 6 months, you will have:

  • Supported priority campaign teams in developing actionable activation segments from first-party and external data sources.
  • Delivered repeatable regional education on first-party data, machine-learning frameworks and relevant tools.
  • Delivered localized AI enablement and campaign consultation across China and Taiwan, with clear adoption and compliance tracking.
  • Scoped or launched at least one Greater China AI localization or market-specific pilot against defined quality and governance criteria.

In 12 months, you will have:

  • Demonstrated measurable improvement in first-party data capability and adoption across priority APAC teams and workflows.
  • Established dependable, decision-useful APAC reporting for global first-party data initiatives.
  • Increased active AI adoption and priority workflow penetration across Greater China, with evidence of productivity, quality or campaign impact.
  • Documented and shared scalable data or AI practices that can be reused across markets.

Core Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in media, advertising, data strategy, audience strategy, marketing technology or a related field.
  • Strong experience applying first-party and external data to media strategy, audience development, planning or activation.
  • Experience leading capability-building, technology-adoption or transformation workstreams across multiple teams or markets.
  • Strong understanding of the Greater China media and marketing landscape; experience supporting China and Taiwan is a strong advantage.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Practical knowledge of first-party data strategy, audience segmentation, activation use cases and associated privacy and governance considerations.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data, adoption and performance information into clear recommendations and reporting.
  • Strong practical understanding of generative AI, AI agents and their application across media and marketing workflows.
  • Hands-on familiarity with platforms such as WPP Open, Gemini or comparable AI, media and data tools.
  • Understanding of prompt and context engineering, agent evaluation, responsible AI governance and the lifecycle from pilot to scaled deployment.
  • Ability to scope AI use cases, coordinate development with technical SMEs and translate adoption and impact data into clear recommendations.

Leadership & Personal Attributes

  • Data-to-Action Thinking: Connects data inputs and technical capabilities to practical audience and campaign decisions.
  • Enablement: Makes data, machine learning and AI concepts accessible through clear training, documentation and hands-on support.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively across media, data, technology and market teams and can influence without direct authority.
  • Execution: Highly organized and able to manage regional reporting, enablement and market delivery workstreams concurrently.
  • Cultural Fluency: Able to adapt regional approaches to Greater China's language, stakeholder and operating context. Professional fluency in English and Chinese is strongly preferred.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-moving environment where tools, data requirements and governance standards continue to evolve.
