The Adult Services Assistant will provide a positive and welcoming experience for all Library visitors. They assist patrons of all ages in locating library materials, with a focus on teens and adults. They will carry out routine Circulation Desk duties and assist patrons with technology. The Assistant will be responsible for ongoing administrative projects using creativity and a love of detail.
- Greets patrons and helps in finding information and recommending books as needed.
- Shares accurate information about library programs and services with the public.
- Assists patrons in the use of library computers and equipment.
- Assists with preparation and implementation of programs for library users aged 13 and up.
- May suggest materials for purchase under the direction of the Adult Services Librarian.
- Answers telephone and directs calls.
- Performs routine circulation and processing functions as needed.
- Performs routine collection maintenance functions.
- Enforces library policies and procedures in an appropriate manner.
- May promote public awareness of library services and programs, creating flyers, social media posts, web events, book displays and bulletin boards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school degree or GED High school degree with at leasttwo years of library experience or equivalent experience working with the public. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.
- Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with the public and other employees.
- Strong communication skills; familiarity with Canva is preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply new computer skills.
- Ability to learn library procedures and apply policies.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and dependability.
- Prior experience working with adults in a library or bookstore setting is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree with one year of customer service experience, or equivalent, is preferred.
- Fluency in a language other than English is preferred.
