Job Summary

Exercises leadership and provide professional direction in assuring quality, safety, day-to-day operational needs, and clinical appropriateness in the delivery of all care for the Center for Prosthetics & Orthotics of Prisma Health. Supports growth and strategy of clinical prosthetics and orthotics services across Prisma Health enterprise. Serves a clinical role providing comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care to patients.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates growth opportunities for the provision of care and services provided through Prisma Health Center for Prosthetics & Orthotics to ensure that said care is consistent with patient needs and the Prisma Health Mission and Strategic plan.

  • Oversees departmental compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, licensure, and certification requirements governing Comprehensive Orthotic and Prosthetic Provision of Care.

  • Interviews, recommends hiring of, orients, trains, educates, assigns work to, evaluates the performance of and when necessary, recommends discipline and discharge from work of subordinate personnel.

  • Develops, secures approval of, implements and monitors adherence to departmental budget in order to ensure that adequate supplies and personnel are available to provide necessary services in an appropriate manner.  Communicates expectations, plans, and goals to the staff

  • Oversees the Orthotic & Prosthetic residency program for the Center for Prosthetics and Orthotics as defined by the National Commission for Prosthetic & Orthotic Education.

  • Assesses patients for orthotic and prosthetic intervention with impairment of human movement or musculoskeletal abnormalities that would impede their ability to participate in their social environment or other activities in order to determine a functional intervention.

  • Formulates and implements a treatment plan and follow up treatment plan based upon a comprehensive assessment to design an intervention to alleviate limitations and enhance function that ensures successful prosthetic and orthotic outcomes, patient health and quality of life.

  • Promotes competency and enhancement of orthotic and/or prosthetic professional practice to contribute to the profession’s body of knowledge includes but is not limited to participation in: • continuing education • training of residents/students • clinical research • evidence-based studies • promotion of public awareness of the orthotic and/or prosthetic profession, consumer organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Master's Degree in Orthotics & Prosthetics, Or Health related field of study.

  • Experience - Five (5) years of experience in Orthotics and Prosthetics

In Lieu Of

  • In Lieu of the education and experience, Bachelor's degree in Certified Prosthetist Orthotists and/or other certified Practitioner in the O & P field, and ten (10) years of experience in Orthotics and Prosthetic field of study may be considered.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Graduate of an NCOPE approved Orthotic and Prosthetic Program

  • Certified in Orthotics and Prosthetics through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthic  or through BOC

  • Valid Driver's License, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart, and a certificate of auto insurance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets)

  • Mathematical skills
