An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief Project Engineer – Trent 7000 Product Development.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Chief Project Engineer is accountable for leading the delivery of multiple strategic Trent 7000 product improvement activities, ensuring achievement of technical, cost, quality and schedule objectives.
Acting as the primary engineering interface with Airbus, you will provide technical, programme and systems leadership across multidisciplinary teams, governing product safety, product requirements, change management and risk on behalf of the Chief Engineer.
The programme includes Engine Development Programme testing and aircraft Flight Test activities to deliver improvements in key product attributes, while ensuring robust programme governance and successful delivery of an integrated solution that meets customer, regulatory and business requirements.
You will own and deliver packages of work to cost, quality and schedule for the whole product, providing leadership and governance for engineers across the project, as well as acting as a delegate for the Chief Engineer.
What you will be doing:
- Create, evolve and maintain product requirements through interfaces with the customer, including the airframer, and the business across the entire lifecycle of the programme.
- Define the technical programme of work that delivers a product fully compliant with all product requirements and fully integrated with the other elements of the programme Work Breakdown Structure, including supply chain, programme and Risk Revenue Sharing Partners.
- Lead the programme management and delivery of an optimised technical solution that satisfies all product requirements, including technical, business and schedule requirements.
- Lead the change management process within Engineering to ensure the level of change and its incorporation are effectively managed.
- Establish and maintain the overall governance structure on behalf of the Chief Engineer to ensure quality, schedule and cost targets are achieved.
- Implement effective Risk Management and Project Gated Review processes for the package, including a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Lead Systems Engineering and systems thinking within the engineering team across the project.
- Represent the Chief Engineer as required.
- Provide programme and technical leadership and support to the Work Package team and comply with Engineering Function policies throughout the lifecycle of the work package.
Position Qualifications:
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Experience across all technical stages of the project lifecycle, with responsibility for the successful delivery of one or more of those stages.
- Experience of setting up, leading and managing multi-functional teams.
- Experience of delivering complex engineering projects or packages of work against technical, cost, quality and schedule objectives.
- Strong programme and project management capability, with experience of managing requirements, risks, change and delivery performance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Ability to provide technical and programme leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Requirements:
- Exposure to non-core project management roles such as Purchasing, Commercial and Operations.
- Experience of Systems Engineering and systems thinking within complex engineering programmes.
- Experience of product requirements management and technical governance across the product lifecycle.
- Experience of product safety, engineering change management and gated review processes.
- Experience of working directly with customers and/or airframers on complex engineering programmes.
- Experience of Engine Development Programme testing and/or aircraft Flight Test activities.
