About the Teaching and Learning Support Service
At the Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS), our work in the fields of university education and techno-pedagogy is two-fold: we support the efforts of faculty members so that their teaching methods are more engaging for the student population. Our faculty support allows students to receive a flexible, high-quality education and to benefit from the appropriate use of technology, both of which have a direct impact on the student experience at the University of Ottawa.

Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Educational and Digital Development, oversees the operational management of educational development, instructional design and digital development activities within the Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS). In this capacity, the incumbent plans, coordinates and supervises the sector’s projects, programs, training sessions and events to ensure efficient, consistent and high-quality delivery.

Working closely with the senior manager, translates strategic guidance into operational action plans, coordinates resources and ensures that the sector’s objectives are met. As a university teaching expert, contributes directly to educational development and instructional design while supporting specialists and stakeholders in fulfilling their mandates.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Program and project management: Manages the educational and digital development programs and projects portfolio. Supervises the demand and needs analysis process, resource allocation, progress monitoring and issue resolution in order to deliver high-quality products, optimize resource use, meet deadlines and achieve operational objectives. Helps improve practices, project management processes, reference frameworks and quality standards in educational and digital development.
  • Educational development: Plans, coordinates and supervises activities related to educational development programs for teaching staff (e.g., events, conferences, seminars, ceremonies, workshops, training sessions and communities of practice). Serves as a subject matter expert in university teaching by actively designing and leading training sessions, developing pedagogical resources, guiding professors and providing education technology support.
  • Digital development and instructional design: Plans, coordinates and supervises instructional design, user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design, multimedia production and digital development activities for projects. Ensures that quality, accessibility and user experience standards are applied. As an instructional designer, contributes directly to the development of online and hybrid courses as well as digital resources.
  • Leadership and collaboration: Provides functional leadership to pedagogical and digital production specialists by offering coaching, guidance, mentorship and expert advice when they deliver initiatives and projects. Encourages the sharing of best practices and supports professional development. Collaborates with faculties, administrative units and education technology teams to ensure project and initiative alignment, meet user needs, and foster the adoption of innovative pedagogical practices.
  •  Human resource management: Recruits, supervises and evaluates employees under their responsibility, and ensures they have the necessary training and tools to perform their work effectively and efficiently. Applies human resource management regulations and procedures.
  • Pedagogical innovation and artificial intelligence: Monitors emerging trends in university pedagogy, digital learning, instructional technologies and artificial intelligence to assess opportunities, risks and impact on teaching and learning. Drafts recommendations based on best practices and guides professors and teams in adopting innovative, ethical and tailored solutions that meet institutional needs.
  • Management support: Supports the senior manager in operational planning, preparing key files, tracking performance indicators and implementing sector priorities. When the senior manager is absent, ensures operational continuity, represents the sector in interactions with internal partners and fulfils delegated responsibilities.

What you will bring:

  • Graduate degree in a related field (education, adult education, distance education, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of seven years’ relevant experience in educational development, instructional design or teaching in a post-secondary setting, including at least three years experience in managing a team, resources and projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating educational development activities.
  • Experience in designing, planning and supervising digital learning initiatives, including in developing courses, education technology projects and multimedia resources.
  • Experience in managing pedagogical and multidisciplinary projects, including their planning, coordination and implementation, and in managing multiple projects at once while respecting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in human resource management, team leadership and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in university teaching or in providing pedagogical support to teaching staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of learning management systems and of instructional technologies and their integration into teaching, including emerging trends.
  • Excellent knowledge of post-secondary operations, governance structures and academic regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills, with an ability to influence, mobilize and establish collaborative partnerships.
  • Knowledge of approaches to change management and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to prepare, summarize and present reports, analyses and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written.
