Description
Job Description Summary
The Division of Information Technology seeks a Graduate Assistant who is fluent in applied AI and comfortable operating across both the technical and business sides of a problem. This is not a support desk or general-office assistantship. The GA is expected to be an active builder: someone who can take an ambiguous business problem, apply AI tools and lightweight development to it, and produce a working solution, analysis, or recommendation that IT leadership can act on. The successful candidate will spend the bulk of their time on two things: (1) identifying and prototyping opportunities to apply AI to university business processes, and (2) supporting structured technical and analytical workstreams, such as enterprise system implementations, where graduate-level rigor is genuinely needed and current staff capacity is the limiting factor.Job Description
AI-Enabled Process Innovation (primary focus)
Identify university business processes (admissions, enrollment, financial aid, student services, HR) that are candidates for AI-assisted automation or decision support.
Prototype solutions using AI APIs, scripting/automation platforms (e.g., n8n, Power Automate, Python), and low-code tooling; document what worked, what didn't, and the estimated efficiency gain.
Translate prototype findings into recommendations IT leadership can bring to Cabinet-level or divisional stakeholders.
Enterprise System & Requirements Support
Support structured business-requirements gathering for active enterprise system implementations (e.g., student success system), applying AI-assisted synthesis tools to accelerate stakeholder interviews, documentation, and gap analysis.
Produce clear, structured requirements documentation suitable for vendor and implementation-team review.
Technical Coordination & Institutional Support
Provide technical and analytical support for IT's institutional initiatives and external-facing commitments (e.g., conference or community presence), with a focus on producing AI-assisted materials, data, or analysis rather than general event logistics.
Maintain clear documentation and version control for all scripts, workflows, and prototypes produced during the assistantship.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a graduate program at Saint Leo University in good academic standing.
Hands-on experience with n8n workflow automation.
Experience building or integrating AI agents and LLM-based systems.
Experience with API and REST integration.
Strong understanding of structured data (SQL, JSON).
Strong written communication skills; ability to translate technical work into plain-language recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional automation platforms (Power Automate, Zapier, or similar).
Experience with business requirements gathering, process mapping, or systems analysis.
Familiarity with higher education administrative systems (SIS, CRM, ERP) or FERPA-aware data handling.
Core Competencies
Self-directed problem solving: comfortable investigating ambiguous problems with minimal supervision.
Builder's mindset: prefers producing a working prototype over a slide deck.
Discretion with sensitive institutional and student data.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and communicate progress clearly.
Application Requirements
Application requires a work sample (an automation workflow, API integration, or AI/LLM app) rather than just a resume.
