Wendell Foster is interested in hiring an energetic Recreation Nurse for our Intermediate Care Facility to join the team of #DifferenceMakers!

What matters to us:

- Ability to work under supervision and to supervise as needed in areas relating directly to nursing care.
- Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in the care of individuals with multiple physical handicaps, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
- Possess valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to drive facility vehicles.
- Possess or be able to possess first aid and CPR certifications (training provided).
Essential Functions:
1. Attends off-grounds activities and vacations with those who need a nurse or CMA during the time they are away.
2. Coordinates with other Recreation staff to schedule off campus activities for those who need nursing support.
3. Coordinates with Person-Centered Specialists to schedule off campus activities for those who need nursing support. These activities will be secondary to the needs of the Recreation Department.
4. Coordinates with the Nursing Department to fill unscheduled time with productive tasks. These will be coordinated with the approval of the DON and Recreation Director.
5. Counts the controlled drugs that they are removing from the facility and count upon return from the off-grounds activity or vacation.
6. Administers medications/treatments to individuals on trips away from the facility as needed, including planning of additional medication for travel/additional days away.
7. Seeks information from direct care staff during and at the end of each activity/vacation.
8. Keeps the interdisciplinary team, recreation director and guardians/family informed of pertinent health information upon the return from a vacation.
9. Administers medications per the Medication administration policies. Initial medications/treatments on M.A.R./T.A.R.
10. Performs nursing procedures, within legal scope of practice and individual training and skill level, with competence and per physician’s orders and facility protocol. Example: oral/tracheotomy suctioning, tracheotomy care, g-tube care, urinary catheterizations, injections, and administration of rectal medications.
11. Completes timely nurses’ notes and T-Logs in Therap.
12. Accompanies individuals to the emergency room when an emergent situation arises during an off-grounds activity or vacation.
13. Orders LOA medications, when needed
14. Maintains confidentiality regarding each person’s health information.
15. Maintains privacy during invasive health procedures.
16. Follows state and federal regulations as they pertain to Health Services including
abuse/neglect regulations.
17. Completes GER’s and staff incident reports per facility policy.
18. Completes continuing education requirements for nursing licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
19. Teaches and models positive health activities whenever possible.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Attends program staff functions as indicated.
- Serves as a member on committees as deemed necessary.
- When nursing care is not needed, recreation nurse will assist staff in the direct care of residents while off grounds on an activity or vacation
- Assist in Recreation activities during “down time” when the schedule allows.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation or Director of Nursing.
