As a Senior Observability Architect, you will help product and platform teams across Digital & Information Technology (D&IT) improve the visibility, reliability, and performance of their applications and systems. Working within a collaborative DevOps team, you will lead the development and adoption of observability practices, helping teams gain meaningful insights through monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and telemetry. This role combines technical expertise, coaching, and hands-on implementation to enable data-driven operational decision-making and support continuous improvement across the organization.

  • Talent development programs: Internal mobility, succession planning, and employee training and development programs are just a few ways we’re dedicated to your development

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or similar platforms

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, telemetry, and system performance concepts

  • Experience supporting DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives

  • Knowledge of cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS

Don’t have all the qualifications listed? That’s ok! Apply anyway. We acknowledge the value of transferable skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and establish performance metrics and operational indicators that align with business outcomes

  • Develop foundational standards, templates, and reference materials to improve consistency and adoption

  • Champion, facilitate and advise the development of observability strategy for individual teams within D&IT

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve system reliability, operational awareness, and service performance across the organization

  • Partner with product and platform teams to implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry solutions

  • Support the evolution of observability capabilities through automation, analytics, and emerging AiOps/Machine Learning driven practices

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with occasional site visits
