Job Description Summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is located in Charleston, SC. MUSC is seeking an academic Endocrinologist to participate in clinical care, research and teaching. Applicants must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and BC/BE in Endocrinology.

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine at MUSC has a fifty year distinguished history of clinical, translational, and basic research on the complications of diabetes. A salient example was participation, under the leadership of Dr. John A. Colwell, in the design, implementation and conduct of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) (1983-93) and its follow-up study, Epidemiology of Diabetes Intervention and Complications (EDIC) (1994 to present). These landmark studies proved the utility of intensive management of diabetes in preventing micro- and macro-vascular complications. In its totality, this body of work (DCCT, EDIC, Program Grant) provides us with a continuing opportunity to study the evolution of complications of diabetes over a 35-year timeframe.

The clinical enterprise includes clinic programs in intensive diabetes, weight management, cardiometabolic disorders, thyroid neoplasms, endocrine cancers as well as general endocrine clinics. Faculty work with fellows and advance practice providers. Teaching focuses on the education of five endocrinology fellows and one diabetes fellows as well as of rotating residents and students.

Job Description

The successful applicant will treat patients with a full spectrum of endocrine conditions, including diabetes and thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, bone, gonadal, and metabolic disorders.  A new joint endocrine/obstetric clinic has recently been implemented, and telemedicine initiatives are in development.  The appointee will work with a team of ten nurse practitioners/physician assistants/dietitians. Teaching duties will focus on education of the five Endocrinology Fellows in training, and of rotating residents and medical students.   

 

The successful candidate will hold an academic rank commensurate with experience.
