Associate Head Tennis Coach

Saint Xavier High School, a Catholic secondary school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers, has remained faithful to the Xaverian legacy since 1864. With 29 KHSAA Tennis state titles and a tradition of excellence that is unmatched in Kentucky high school tennis, Saint Xavier High School is seeking an Associate Head Tennis Coach to continue the success and development of our tennis program.  

The tennis season generally runs from mid-February through May. This position requires availability four per week, typically 3:15 pm-5:30 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00am – 1:00 pm, with additional evening hours for matches and occasional weekend travel for tournaments. The Associate Head Tennis Coach will also participate in fall tennis and winter conditioning programs.  

Summary 

The Associate Head Tennis Coach works closely with the Head Tennis Coach and other members of the coaching staff to support all aspects of the Saint Xavier High School tennis program, including student athlete development, coaching, and continued program success.  

Duties & Responsibilities 

• Coach, supervise, and provide instruction to student athletes at all levels of the tennis program. 
• Work with approximately 40 student athletes and evaluate players for correct team placement.  
• Develop practice plans and match lineups for both JV and Varsity teams. 
• Communicate with student athletes, parents, other coaches, and Athletic Administration regarding program activities and expectations.  
• Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of all tennis facilities.  
• Support the development of new coaches by providing guidance in tennis coaching skills and strategies. 
• Coach and supervise student athletes at weekend tournaments as needed on a rotating basis with other members of the coaching staff.  
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have completed a minimum of 64 semester hours of college credit, documented by an official transcript, or meet applicable requirements to serve as an approved substitute teacher.  
• Previous tennis coaching experience required, with demonstrated knowledge of tennis fundamentals, strategy, and player development.  
• Competitive tennis playing experience is preferred.  
• Must complete KHSAA Coaching and Safety webinars and tennis-specific webinars, as well as required CPR training.  
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with student athletes, parents, and colleagues. 
• Strong organizational and time management skills.  
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Tennis Coach and other members of the coaching staff.   

This position requires a background check and completion of the Safe Environment Training course offered through the Archdiocese of Louisville before interacting with students.
