INTRODUCTION:
This position works collaboratively with a team to ensure the Siletz Tribal Recreation Facility is clean, safe, well maintained, and fully operational through comprehensive custodial and facility maintenance services.
DUTIES:
- Plans and oversees all custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency as directed by the Public Works Director.
- Ensure the security of buildings grounds, and facilities during assigned shifts by monitoring for safety concerns, securing access points, and promptly reporting incidents, safety hazards and maintenance issues to the Public Works Director.
- Assist Director in purchasing cleaning supplies/equipment.
- Schedule clean up and repairs as directed by Director.
- Performs a variety of custodial cleaning and light maintenance duties to ensure the facility remains clean, safe and well maintained.
- Meet the custodial specifications for each tribal facility, which includes: dusting furniture; mopping, scrubbing, waxing and buffing floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; empty wastebaskets and properly dispose of waste; cleans walls, windows, and blinds; wash coffee equipment; and dust ceiling fixtures.
- Performs aseptic cleaning of high touch areas of facility.
- Dispose of hazardous waste material, and adheres to all proper procedures when collecting, boxing, handling, and transporting bio-hazardous materials.
- Know proper procedures for shutting off utilities in emergency situations, which includes knowledge of shut-off points for water, electricity and to provide direction to repair technicians.
- Sort recyclable material.
- Takes inventory, maintains storage areas, and replenishes supplies.
- Keep restrooms in clean, orderly, sanitary conditions. Clean, disinfect, and deodorize bathroom fixtures. Ensure restrooms are properly stocked with the necessary supplies.
- Assist Public Works Director with any damage or repair work needed; or safety hazards.
- Secure facility upon completion of duties.
- Assist Public Works Director in planning annual budget for custodial program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Facility Inspections:
- Conduct and document monthly inspections of emergency eyewash stations to ensure proper operation and compliance.
- Perform monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and coordinate required annual inspections and servicing with approved vendors.
- Inspect and test smoke alarms, carbon monoxide (CO) detectors, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on a monthly basis; maintain inspection records.
- Track, monitor, and coordinate required backflow testing and maintain associated compliance documentation.
- Monitor facility equipment and furnishings to ensure safe operation and compliance with established maintenance standards.
- Conduct monthly elevator inspections and coordinate annual inspections, certifications, and preventative maintenance with qualified vendors.
- Perform monthly generator inspections and coordinate scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing to ensure emergency readiness.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED and 2 years of combined experience as a custodian, building maintenance, grounds keeping, or related field - OR – or any combination of education and/or work experience.
Knowledge of:
- Janitorial, building maintenance, grounds and equipment maintenance, management and repair.
- ADA compliance /building maintenance.
Experience in:
- Custodial and building maintenance duties sufficient to effectively clean, disinfect and maintain interior and exterior of building; as well as keep the property grounds well groomed.
Ability to:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary recreation facility, including restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, common areas, floors, windows, and outdoor spaces
- Set up, arrange, and break down chairs, tables, bleachers, electronic scoring equipment, and other equipment for meetings, recreational programs, and special events.
- Perform routine custodial and minor maintenance duties, including trash removal, unclogging toilets, replacing light bulbs, and addressing basic equipment and facility issues.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and tools safely and effectively, including floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, power washers, and lifts, while following all safety procedures and product instructions.
- Recognize and report routine maintenance concerns related to HVAC, lighting, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to the Public Works Director or appropriate service provider for corrective action.
Other:
- Must be physically able to safely and efficiently perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess a valid state Driver’s License and vehicle insurance.
- Must possess and maintain first aid and basic lifesaving card, or have the ability to acquire within the first 12 months of start date.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects weighing 50 pounds; and occasionally up to 100 pounds; and stand and move about for long periods.
- Must be able to work safely on ladders.
- Employee must be able to work early morning or late night hours, and occasionally on weekends.
