Culture and Climate Associate

This is a Contractual Basis position

The Culture and Climate Associate (CCA) serves as a proactive leader in cultivating a positive school culture by promoting student engagement, fostering meaningful relationships, and supporting the implementation of school-wide culture initiatives. The CCA supports students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success by implementing behavior intervention strategies, providing individualized support, and fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. This role proactively supports school culture through relationship-building, restorative practices, student engagement initiatives, and collaboration with staff. Working closely with teachers, counselors, special education staff, and school leadership, the CCA helps students develop positive behaviors, self-regulation skills, and healthy relationships that contribute to academic achievement. The CCA works in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, offices, and other school settings. The position requires frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community partners in a fast-paced educational environment. 

At GGA, the Culture and Climate Associate serves as a positive role model who helps cultivate leadership, confidence, accountability, and sisterhood while ensuring students experience a respectful, engaging, and joyful school environment. The Culture and Climate Associate reports directly to the Director of Culture.

This position is offered on a contractual basis.

Key Expectations:

  • Provide direct behavioral support to students in classrooms, hallways, common areas, and during school activities. 
  • Build positive, authentic relationships with students through daily interactions.
  • Monitor and support student behavior throughout the school day, including arrival, dismissal, hallways, classrooms, lunch, and school events.
  • De-escalate behavioral crises using approved crisis prevention and intervention techniques. 
  • Reinforce school-wide behavioral expectations and positive culture initiatives.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of schoolwide culture initiatives, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), recognition and incentive systems, community meetings, restorative circles, and other activities that promote a positive, inclusive, and achievement-oriented school culture. 
  • Conduct restorative conversations and conflict mediation between students.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, school counselors, and families regarding student progress when appropriate. 
  • Conduct daily student check-ins and wellness check-ins to identify barriers to learning, monitor student well-being, and provide timely support or referrals as needed. 
  • Assist with student re-entry meetings following disciplinary actions.
  • Support implementation of individualized behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide coaching to students on self-regulation, conflict resolution, decision-making, and personal accountability.
  • Partner with the Director of Culture and school leadership to implement school-wide initiatives that cultivate a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all students feel connected, supported, and empowered to succeed. 
  • Implement and support Tier I school-wide behavioral expectations, positive behavior reinforcement systems, and culture-building initiatives that foster student belonging and engagement.
  • Provide Tier II behavioral interventions, including check-in/check-out systems, social-emotional skill development, targeted mentoring, and small-group support for students requiring additional behavioral or social-emotional assistance.
  • Support Tier III interventions by collaborating with school leaders, counselors, special education staff, families, and community partners to develop and implement individualized behavior support plans for students with intensive needs.
  • Participate as an active member of the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team by reviewing behavioral data, monitoring student progress, identifying intervention strategies, and contributing to data-informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, school leadership, and families to develop and implement attendance improvement and student engagement plans within the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). 
  • Assist in creating a safe, culturally responsive, and inclusive school climate that reflects the school's mission and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to de-escalate conflicts calmly and effectively while maintaining professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong observation and documentation skills.
  • Ability to safely implement approved crisis intervention techniques when required. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced school environment.
  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
  • Ability to walk throughout the school building for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and assist students as necessary.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies or student crises. 
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a public charter school or public school.
  • Training or experience in Restorative Practices, or Conflict Resolution.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and trauma-informed practices.
  • Knowledge of positive behavior, supports trauma-informed practices, and restorative approaches. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional during challenging situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and families.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic documentation.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Growth minded, receiving and incorporating feedback from team leaders, executive leadership and peers

About Our School

Girls Global Academy (GGA) is an all-girls public charter high school in Washington, DC. We are currently a Candidate to be an International Baccalaureate World School who offers the IB Career Programme with specific pathways in engineering and business. 

As we continue to grow our student body to 400 students and 60 staff over the next 3-5 years we strive to establish a strong school culture where our four pillars of sisterhood, scholarship, service and safety are embedded in everything we do.
