Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Orthopedic Technologist, who is specially trained in the field of Orthopedics, you will provide assistance to the Provider in caring for orthopedic patients.  This position is represented by SEIU-UHW. 

 

Every day you will be responsible for patient assessment, applying casts and splints pursuant to the Provider's order, interpreting simple fractures and dislocation on x-ray, and documenting patient concerns and care provided in the patient's medical record.  In addition, if qualified, you may be asked to perform Medical Assistant and/or back office duties as needed.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have strong communication skills, a solid understanding of orthopedic conditions, and a passion for high-quality patient care. 

 

This is a benefitted part-time position, working 20 hours per week.

 

• Ability to apply, adjust, and remove all common orthopaedic devices, to include but not limited to splints, casts, molds for braces, and podiatric appliances.
• Knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing change, suture or staple removal and in setting up for surgical procedures. Maintain, and package surgical instruments / packs for sterilization.
• Ability to interpret simple fractures and dislocations on x-ray films.
• Ability to perform in an operating room environment as first and second assistant under the direct supervision of a physician.
• Take patient medical history, take and record vitals. Assist with pin removal, injections and aspirations as directed. Triage calls, monitor and schedule appointments, surgery scheduling and coordination of physician ordered tests.
• Provide support to the medical staff as needed and communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.

Job Requirements

Required

• Two (2) years full time work experience in Orthopedic clinic or office, working in direct Orthopedic patient care
• Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) through The National Board Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT) or Orthopedic Technologist Registered (ROT) through American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP)
• Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on understanding anatomical structures and their relationship with one another
• General knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, fracture healing and complications, wound healing an dcomplications, principle's of aseptic techniques, application and use of orthopedic equipment and supplies
